Don't use them. Years ago, a family friend who was in law enforcement told me that if an officer sees a detector when they pull someone over they are more likely NOT to give them any type of break. Don't know how true this is, but, in my experience, I think I've been better off not taking the chance. Have been pulled over a few times in the past 35+ years and have been let off most times with only a warning; those couple of times I've been given a ticket, it has been for only doing 5 miles over although I was doing 10+ over.

Many insurance companies will drop you if they find out you have one as well.

We have one in both cars.
Just the other day i was driving in a 55 zone and the detector went into full alert about a mile before a bridge. The speed limit changed to 45 just before the bridge.
Hidden down in the median on the other side were 2 LEO's.

I don't leave home without it.

Myth... GEICO tried that in the 80's and lost. State Insurance commissioners in Maryland and California sued them, stating you can't deny coverage based on radar detectors alone.

I always take note of the suggested max speed limit and then proceed at a rate conditions merit. several verbal and written warnings later still have not had the ticket. no detector, no attitude, no ticket.

dependence on the detector, does it numb your senses to be aware of your surroundings.
Often see a ghost vehicle have someone pulled over and wonder how far they drove, at what speed and conditions to be noticed, and yet not notice they were followed closely.

Run an Escort Passport Max in mine, and it's saved me countless times. To the guy saying LEO's are less likely to cut you a break, I disagree with that. I've still been pulled over multiple times for more petty offenses (tints, no front plate, etc) and have been given warning after warning. Hell I even got pulled over for doing 52 in a 35 and got off with a warning with the detector. Just depends on the officer and how you interact with them. If you're respectful, chances are they'll give you a break. If you're a dick, well, they'll probably write you lol

If your car has NAV, there's a filter setting that shows you the posted speed limit on the screen. It's pretty accurate and a cool feature if traveling unknown areas.

Hi,

I voted. I might get one if I can research one that I am comfortable trusting. I am afraid that I might get pulled over anyway though and because of having the radar detector get a bigger ticket. I really need one that works though. On the highway to the main freeway I am usually close to double the posted speed limit.

Haha.. 80's. Yep, that's how long I've been out of the radar detector game..
And my insurance does ask if I own one..

Yes, but only in states that don't prohibit radar detectors. I drive faster than average and have 0 points on my driving record.

Also, check out the Waze phone app it's useful if you live in an area with lots of users.

I have one and it's worthless if I am honest

It might detect a cop once you're literally starring at the guy. Otherwise if you want something semi-accurate for detecting cops you gotta use Waze
