Electric exhaust cutouts

I'm thinking of adding "Pypes" Electric Exhaust Cutouts to my 2011 2SS Converitible.
The car is stock except for a cat back exhaust system.
My objective is to have the car sound radical at shows and cruze nights.
Has anyone added cutouts to a stock system? If so, how do you like them?

I've had several cutouts over the years, not in the 5th gen though. Had two in my TBSS. The first one was garbage (Badlanz), the second was QTP. The QTP lasted for a couple years and had to be rebuilt. Easy but I wasn't happy about it.

When I spoke with the Pypes rep a couple years ago, they said they had a limited lifetime warranty on their cutout. I checked the site a year later and that was not the case.

I went with a Doug's guillotine-style ecutout on my LT1 Trans Am. Much better design and works awesome. Not really interested in a pair of them for the 5th gen. QTP does make a NICE wireless controller to open/close them outside the vehicle and you can easily wire them up in a pair.

That's just my experience. Good luck.

I have the Badlanz cutouts on mine that harner mentioned in his post. They've been on my car almost a year and I haven't had any problems with them, but if you were to have a problem with them they come with a 5 year warranty. The cutouts are probably my favorite mod on the car, I can have it loud for just cruising around town and I can close them when I'm going down the highway and you can't even hear the exhaust. I've also replaced the resonator with an x pipe and that made it even louder. I like loud cars and this isn't quite loud enough for me, it's probably more than enough for most people but I'm gonna be getting rid of the cats too make it even louder.

I use the QTP's, they work great on my car as well as customers. It's nice because you can have a really loud exhaust when you want it, and close it so it's not deafening on the highway/etc.

I ended up throwing the Badlanz in the trash. I had a 4" one on the TBSS and it would never seat right. It'd always pop open and never seal right. Sent it back under warranty and it did the same thing. Threw it in the trash, went to a 3" QTP, rebuilt that one 2 years later and sold the vehicle. Glad it works for you though!

No problem's with Doug's.

My TBSS was cammed with a forged LS2, stainless LT's and catted Y. The catback was custom with a cutout sitting before the biggest Magnaflow that would fit. It had a little lope at idle but was super quiet. Cutout open...sounded like it was going to rip your face off haha. I drove with it open most of the time.

This video was before a lot of changes were made to the setup. Also right after I put the second Badlanz cutout in. It has a the "Attitude" V1 cam courtesy of PCMofNC

Cut outs are great, they are really unimpressive when running stock exhaust manifolds and cats. But with long tubes and hi flow or no cats at all. They will then sound amazing. Don't get cheap cutouts, they leak and get stuck open.

Currently interested in cutouts for mine as well. Trying to find a set that would fit well post-header though, or maybe post-cats. Seems like only the noweeds ones fit the bill, and I'm not about to drop 900 for something with no power gains

Had noweeds for almost two years no issues at all. I just had the controller go bad because I managed to damage the wire somehow

For the most part cutouts are like some guys after a twelve pack. They make you sound and feel more bad than you were before you had them LOL. They are a fun mod not a power adder.

I have DMH brand cutouts. I really don't endorse them. I've run them for over four years and they're OK. They have never leaked but the motor and gear box design leaves something to be desired. They eventually get a lot of play and slop in the gearbox causing motor wobble and eventual failure. Dave's customer service is kind of poor and getting replacement parts is a slow and arduous process. They are about $400 and probably require wait time.
