Trigger pulled - Long haul home - permagrin

Thanks for the nudge Bigtime53 ... and thanks to all those out there for sharing info which factored into my new purchase. Lured by 20+% off MSRP deals, I settled on a black 2015 ZL1 M6 in MN .. great folks to deal with and i had trip already in works for visit back to the home land. Bought 23 Nov and drove off 27 Nov with winter storm bearing down on Kansas & OK ... the center of my normal route back to NM. I understood the stock tires no good in cold ... but had zero trouble taking it easy -- break-in procedures followed to a T. During the entire 1500 miles, temps were in the 20-30 deg F range, but the constant driving I'm sure helped keep the rubber warm. Car has the Recaros -- Incredibly comfortable for 6' 185lbs -- very near best long term road comfort I've experienced in any vehicle. To avoid roughest weather, I routed from Mpls to North Platte NE. Spent night and continued on south the next day through western NE, KS, CO, and then NM. Incredibly no real precip the whole way .. freezing fog was the worst of it ... accumulated a neat little layer on nose of car, but never even needed to use the wipers! I experienced every type of pavement -- car always tracked solid, tires issued wide variety of sound but I guess to be expected. Did not use the Nav system much .. played with it a little, but I just didn't need much help ... only an average system based on my limited touch. If we're to believe the car's MPG calculator, I let it run for entire duration of trip and it was at 19.6 when I pulled in garage. Obviously, I had no chance to test the envelope of what the car is capable of like most of you, but it was clear to me these cars will readily test serious driving skills -- exactly what we're after! For me, the permagrin is just beginning -- what a ride!

Congratulations and glad to hear you already got to enjoy the car on the ride home. I was in the same boat as you couldn't pass up the 20% off msrp, got a Black M6 as well.

Got my car a few months ago and my permagrin is still on every time I drive the car . I was going to say have fun, but in a ZL1 that goes without saying .

Great story. I picked up a low miles '13 in MO in Sep and had a great drive to South Florida. A lot to be said for the long "get to know you" drives.
