Question Passed on a "good" deal for a 1lt/RS

Local dealership offered me https://www.midwaychevy.com/new/Chev...2e67380c6e.htm <---this car for $34,xxx otd with me trading them my Sonic LT turbo (2013 29,xxx miles excellent shape, payoff ~$14k) and Cavalier LS sport (2003 109,xxx miles fair shape, title in hand).

I felt like it would be too much of an impulse buy / bad decision, so I walked.
Still wondering if their offer was fair or not, what do you think?

Doesn't look like a deal to me. How did it get to $34k out the door, when the ad says $29400. Not sure of your sales tax, but in Ohio it is 7.25, also your trades count off the purchase price before tax. My estimate would have been closer to 32k With no trades. Something does't seem right there?

Yeah, I don't know about them, that ad is just to get you in the door then they quote you at msrp. Its funny you mention making a deal with no trades because I asked the sales guy how much would they sell it to me for if I weren't including any trades. He told me the same price, as a matter of fact they were quoting $35,xxx before the sales manager went to his boss to see if he could go lower .

I thought since the 16's are on the way they'd want to clear out the 15's, but with those prices maybe they just want to hold on to them. Other dealers near by are selling the same exact car minus the sunroof and rally stripes for ~$25,xxx. If I had to have one that bad I'd buy elsewhere.

34k out the door... I got a 2LT RS 2 tone leather, heated seats, hud, plus all options on this car (sunroof, rally stripes, spare tire...) AND an extended warranty for 38k after tax and everything. That was no trade. Seems like your trades should be worth a lot more than 4k, as well as the car should be less than mine.

I also got mine in April, before we knew how awesome the 6th gen was, and at the start of sports car season. They SHOULD be cheaper now.

WOW.. Thats alot. I bought my 14, 2LT/RS for $24.500 brand new with no trade in. I live in Eugene, Oregon and found it on the Internet in Tacoma, Washington. So a 15 should not be much more.

They probably have you $4-5K upside down on the Sonic, and only giving you $1K on your Cavalier. I think that's why it looks like they've added money onto the car deal. I've bought 2 cars at Midway and both times their 1st offer was not very favorable. The deal is, if they ask you if the price is fair and you say yes, they have no obligation to go lower. Keep saying no--and that's the only way you'll know how low the price can go. But--do your homework. If THAT car is the one you want, you should know the price of the Camaro in Phoenix, along with the value of your trades and use that for your leverage. The pic shows how this Midway final price deal is 'conditional' so even though you see $18K as an advertised price here--know that that's only if you qualify for all of the special pricing. For example, check the fine print on those special deals. You only get the Loyalty Offer of $2500 off if you're trading in a Volt--not just because you're a Midway customer. So know all the incentives that you qualify for as well. If you don't really know those details, how can you evaluate the deal?

You make many good points, I went in there ignorant of everything. I had no real desire to get back into a camaro, but the possibility of doing so was tempting. I purchased my sonic from them new, so I use their service department to do my scheduled maintenance. Of course there are always salesmen around to offer deals to upgrade my sonic to camaro.

Based on the deal they presented me, now is not the time to buy. I was curious to see what they would come up with though.

I just did buy my '15 Camaro last month. My original plan was to save a few more $$ and wait until Spring for the '16. But the more I thought about it, I really like the 5, and I didn't want to pay the extra for the 6. As soon as I flipped that switch, I wanted to get a deal done sooner rather than later before the inventory was picked over. FWIW: Car deals are all about the #'s--so leave your emotion at home. Don't go there indecisive--know what you want, and what you are willing to spend--and know that you don't have to settle for the best deal of the day--because tomorrow is a new day, and a new deal.
