Borla S type CatBack vs. Axle Back

Just a question- I absolutely LOVE the sound of the Borla S type Catbacks--- but wow! the cheapest I can find them is 1300 and that doesn't include the install. So- I was wondering If you ordered the Borla S-type Axle Back and removed the Catalytic Converters and.or the resonators -- do you think it would sound the same as the full set of cat backs?

also is it illegal for a muffler shop to remove the catalytic converters and resonators...

If I can do the axle backs-- it will cost me ALOT less!

just a thought........

it'll be louder w/o the cats.

You'll make more power w/ a cat-back...if you're only worried about sound, just do the axle-back...it should sound similar.

It is considered illegal to remove cats...but I'm sure there's shops out there that'll do it.

Has anyone seen any dyno results from the cat-back system. I have seen other brands dyno sheets but not borlas. Their quality and sound is top notch for sure.

Our Borla S Axle back on our L99 did not gain any IMO. Its all about sound. Most of the time exhaust will not net you enough HP to make any difference unless you have a full setup headers back with FI.

Thanks everybody!! I have been too worried to do anything up until now- my warranty is about gone anyway- so why not! I just can't shell out the 1100 for the catbacks- all i really want is the sound of the borla s type cat backs. I'm not going to be doing any more preformane work. So do you think that i couldstill get the same sound out of the axle backs? And what difference does the x pipe make? Thanks

a axle back with a cat delete will sound better than a cat back alone. the cats are the biggest sound killer on this car.

Thanks everybody! I actually got an amazing deal on an axle back system (minus the tips) that has 500 miles on them- so the second they get here- those bad boys are going on!! Lol. I am just going to install the axle back first- and see how it sounds- if it needs to be louder i'll look at removing stuff... I guess i'm still being a little cautious!! I can always take stuff off but i cant add it back as easily!! Lol
