Question about Camaros Maintenance Reputation

I've been considering ordering the new camaro for a few months now. I was about to place a order then I heard that camaros have a worse maintenance rep than mustangs do. I don't want to purchase anything that I'll end up having to pay a lot of money fixing years down the line Any information would be helpful.

They have only been on the streets for 6 months.

Nobody knows yet.

You want to compare them to mustangs? well how did the mustang do the FIRST year they came out???
That is really the only way to compare them.

Any first year model car is going to have kinks that have to get worked out. SO to look at it that way, yes i would say that the 2010 Camaro has had a few more problems than the 2010 Mustang........ but how much did they change from the 2009 Mustang? Not much..... How much did they change from the 2009 Camaro???? EVERYTHING, seeing as how there wasn't one.

From the people on here, I would say the Camaro has gone just as smoothly as ANY first year model car ever has. No worse and its debatable if they had done better.

If you like the Camaro..... Just get it. DOnt worry about that stuff.
If you find you can't afford the maintenance, sell it.
Nobody here can predict how this car will hold up over the years. We can only assume it will do just as good/bad as any other car on the streets today.

I meant just camaros in general. I understand the part about it being too early for these 1st year models but I was wondering if I could get some info about maintenace on previous models. I've tried looking up to get a idea but I haven't been able to find anything that didn't seem unbiased. I'm saving 3 grand for emergency use.

I would say if you like, buy!, and the maintenance part is this most of the dealer mechanics have been trained, according to the rep. I talked to, plus they been working on the engine for a long time. I would say that any car can break down or have trouble, then you may put 300000 or more on it and never have any serious repair problems.
Good luck, and bless if you order ONE.

If I was you I would wait until the 2011 MY. It's my experience that most cars in their first year have some bugs that need working out, my family owned 2 cars like that. After that the Camaro should be rock solid, IMO.

The problem is that they really don't compare well. The previous model was generation 4 from 3/4s of a decade ago... the 2010 is generation 5. There isn't much pulled from Gen 4 into Gen 5 that translates. The known issues have been relatively small - so far just an SS cable issue thats been resolved, and the nuts holding the spoiler in place tend to come loose and rattle around in the trunk. Easy fix with locktight.

The other thing of it is that GM really stepped up the quality on the Camaro. Soemthing chevy had been lax in for a while, and is now quite well turned around. So the answer really will be for what you're looking. However, you can also look at the extended warranty if you're that concerned about it.

Apples to Oranges man. The only similarity is the modern version of the Chevy Small block V-8, AKA the gen 3 & 4 LS1 and LS3. The reputations of these engines are spotless. The similarities to previous Camaros end there.

If you want to play it safe you can extend the warranty easily enough. Just shop around the price so you don't overpay, you don't have to buy it with your car.

Yeah, Like i was saying, and like they were saying.....

Judging the 2010 Camaro's Maintenance reputation by comparing it to a 2002 OR OLDER Camaro, will help you just as much as comparing it to the Buick Lacrosse.... or the GMC Sierra... or the Cadillac Escilade.... The GMC Yukon..... The Chevy Corvette..... The Chevy Astro Van........ None of them are the same car....

The thing is they are all made by the same company.

THat is THE ONLY similarity you can draw between THIS 2010 Camaro, and any other year model Camaro ever made.

if you are worried about Maintenance.... Dont compare the car to other cars.... Compare the COMPANY and its Warranty Claims Customer Service to other Companies.
That is where it will make a difference

Not sure why you need to save a "just in case" amount as any major problems will be under warranty anyway. Scheduled maintenance is all you really have to worry about, oil changes and the like. Unless of course you're worried about having to buy a new set of rear tires soon after taking posesion

P.S. Over 3000 kms on mine without issue

Ken
