Question 2010 2SS L99 Low Throttle Shutter/Hesitation 10K miles

I have a 2010 2SS Pace car with the L99. I've noticed this problem ever since I bought it with 7500 miles on it in August. I'm around 10500 miles now. Basically, at anywhere from 0 to 1/4 throttle, while in gear and driving, there's a slight hesitation / shutter. There are no codes. I've done the 2 fuse pull and have had the computer reset to relearn. This car only gets premium fuel.

Even with such low mileage, could there be something major? Is it a simple EGR valve? Any ideas?

Does it happen when you put it in "M" mode and go through the gears your self? Have you done anything with afm?

I have not tried M mode. I have not touched anything on the car. Since it is one of the few rare pace cars, I don't plan on doing anything to it. However, I notice it on either commanded throttle as well as setting the cruise and just hitting it up 1 time. That slight increase causes a slight shutter. Not a big shake... just enough hesitation to notice. Also, at such low miles, I find it hard to believe it's anything real serious. Just a nuisance. Stomping on the gas gives enough hesitation to throw you in the seat at a time you really aren't prepared for.

That is why a lot of people buy the throttle controller. Mine did the same thing until I installed it.

As to not "modify" the car.... keeping it original... no enhancements... I don't want to put a "bandaid" on a problem. I would rather see what is causing it... IE: EGR... TPS... etc

It sounds to me like its the AFM. When the car is in 4 cylinder mode and you give it gas and all 8 cylinders fire back up.... My car used to shudder when coming back to 8 especially under light throttle input. AFM is disabled on my car in the tune I have now. So much better.

If you want to test this theory out put the trans in M mode. Pull back the left paddle and drop a gear. This should disable AFM I believe. Or f need be go up one gear then back down one and it will shut it off for sure. While still in full manual mode accelerate and see if you still notice the problem you are noting with shudder.

Your car might be "working as designed"

Sounds like a poor design to me.... lol.. Ok. I have a diablosport T1000 programmer. Since it's married to my wife's truck, I haven't attempted to do anything to the camaro other than just monitor it. I'll do some digging. Maybe disabling the AFM won't be such a big issue.

Yes its a horrendous design and GM should be shot and pi$$ed on for it.... I can't say for sure its that but I sure as heck wouldn't be surprised. I found it unbearable on my car as it would splutter and fart at as low as 25 mph coming out of V4. Testing as I mentioned should allow you to see if it is the cuplrit.

Your handheld would allow you to disable DOD (AFM) no doubt. My car has a custom email tune on it and it is so much better than the stock one my only regret was putting up with it as long as I did. I did use a Range device for a year to disable AFM but it would throw error codes from time to time which was annoying.

All good. Thanks. I'll have a T1000 for sale if anyone wants it. Just have to restore the factory and reset it. The InTune i2 allows for more than one vehicle with licensing. So.... I'm going to upgrade. :-)

Manual mode seems to run fine. Guess I'll wait until I can afford the i2 and get the AFM disabled.

Yeah I figured it was the AFM monster rearing its ugly head. It really is a shame it is like that. My advice would be if you get a tune for the car is get a trans tune with it. It really wakes th L99 up.

I don't know if the i2 comes with one or not? I used a SCTX4 with a custom tune from Dynosteve. He is great to work with....

Is that a problem on the LS3 manual transmissions as well. I have a friend with symptoms just as your describing.

You can get a range afm disabler. If you buy an old used one you can send it to range for a free firmware update.
