Headers INSANE prices
Granted it's been a few yrs since I bought a new set of SB headers..but not so long ago in a far far away land I remember one could buy anywhere a set of headers for $300. Or less..now fast forward to a far distant future aka 15 yrs later I get me a 6 year old Camaro....and I see from these companies on cam5 and all over the net summit..jegs..ect.." Get this great great chepest price ever. Set of headers...and they start @ $1500. and only go up from there...now I'm no rocket scientist ..but its still 4 tuned tubes into one collector..yes there is a cat or cat delete pipe ( in some cases)and a threaded nut for o2 sensor added.but at the tune of $1200 plus for a cat n couple nutz...really..can anyone shed light on this travesty....I mean damn I gotta get a loan for simple new set of headers really...

I run the Stainless Power and had them ceramic coated. They fit perfectly and were a "breeze" to install.

Welcome to the free market. Don't know many things that are cheaper today then 15 years ago, except gas!!
You can get a decent set of headers for under $800, but the best quality, fit and finish will run you $1500+ for cats and all.....1st world problems, brother. They are a bitch.

I thought the same thing when I bought mine.
I got set of Doug Thorely LT for under $700. They sound great and the finish looks like the day I put them on ( a couple years ago). |

Hi guys.
The exact same set of tubular headers I bought in 1998 for almost 300 dollars on the penny- same company, same collector, flange size- very thick flanges actually, and primary size- are still only $545 dollars, US. This is free-market prices in action ![]() No, it is not the same price. But it is comparable, and headers should be cheap. For some background, those 300 dollar headers were designed to fit the car by using a 1970 GS455 as a "model" to fit a custom header build, and then the data was fed into a PC to translate it to CAD. That's a fairly custom-fit, guaranteed-to-work-on-the car job, and at 300 bucks then/545 bucks now, a good deal. Cheap. Not expensive. And that is from a place that specializes in Buick. Not exactly a high-volume business, for popular cars. Unless the 1500 dollar headers come with a whole bunch of bells and whistles, that's expensive in my opinion. Yes sure, needs bungs for 02 sensors etc. These are known factors in 2016. It should not add a thousand dollars. Then consider that all I did to them was use Eastwood Tool Co. high-temp manifold paint on the raw header, and bake them per instructions in an industrial oven and they still have not rusted out, on a car that was daily driven May-November for over a dozen years, they are good value, too. That's much longer than raw headers are expected to last.

I bought speed engineering headers from a vendor on this site for 250. The quality was good and they fit with 0 issues. Couldn't be happier.

No, you're not wrong but as stated, free market, inflation, supply and demand. People will pay it so that's what they'll sell for. I remember picking up Hooker Super Comp LT's for a small block for $100, and that was spending some money.
The Speed Engineering looks enticing.
