DIY door accents-pics & annoying words...
Here's what we wanted in a non-available-for-Blue-Velvet 1SS Red-HOT door trim (with our available LPO white Bolsters):
Ooops--can't upload pics from Chebby.com? Incorect file extension my Butt! OK here's the pics of what I did today--extensions be damned! BTW-- GM FINALLY woke up & decided to market their own aftermarket markups--you can save w/ DIY--my red hots were from shopchevyparts.com around $208 w/ship (realize when you pay your dealer it includes install--ridiculous for my white bolster snap-ons but valid for Gen5-type you-grind the plastic-welds-off-& find-screws BS) I'll upload the shop manual pages the service manager was so kind to print out when I do the driver's door tomorrow--does y'all believe it actually has a door-button removal SEQUENCE? I was LMAO as I individually popped 'em with my trim tool--WTF, are these head bolts? Door panel pull, 8 screws, new accent, use same screws: Easy as built in Lansing AMERICAN apple pie, Jeff (anyone get a service manual--URL in OM yields only up to 2015) |

DIY door accents Shop Manual Pages & advice
Evidently the clips holding the top of the panel & window seal/wiper
to the door frame are meant to break or weaken upon disassembly. Luckily (?) I'm an idiot (it took me awhile to figure out it was a D/S door pictured & I was doing the P/S first & was confused for a bit!) so I pulled the panel bottom away from the door frame & LIFTED it off like the way 99% of my other cars work. Therefore the clips (except for the forwardmost) stayed on the trim panel, along with the seal/wiper. (the wiper is like a malleable strip SO DON'T KINK IT UP when you pull it out--it can be straightened, tho) Also--there's a lip on the rear part of the seal/wiper that should be put OVER the metal edge of the frame--you'll see it. Using a screwdriver & the trim tool get them off the panel & back into their proper slots along the top edge of door frame.(PIC#1). (OR--do it their way & let us know if you needed new fasteners) Door opener cable is like a bike's depress white plastic button, pull out enough to rotate cable 90 deg I lift ball out. Male wiring harness connectors have a white "safety" which must be pulled up BEFORE you push the button to release the connector (PIC2) Waiting for my LPO S0V white bolsters(PIC3) I |

You guys are GREAT:
1) Didn't have to be born a Pisces (be 58 in March) to ABSOLUTELY KNOW there'd be a "thumbnail" comment when I took those pics('89 Mustang LX door hinge pin service--don't be jealous--a 4-banger that a friend gave to my son, who stored it at his friends when he was done w/ it, then somehow it came back to me after 8 yrs) 2) Grammer was a surprise--yes, an English major cruelly sucked into Medicine for 30 years 'til I finally escaped & retired. Don't get me wrong--helping people is very rewarding--having Bosses, NOT 3) Was gonna go the paint-it route using Redline Red Tricoat Pearl (I'm a MOPAR guy at heart) but no parts were available when I ordered 11/20/2015(Any of you see that GM Dragon Green Metallic in person? WOW) 4) Now, DO I do something crazy electrically or paintwise w/ my stock accents? What'd you do? Jeff & Family |
