The McLaren F1 is right there for a close second though.

The F40 most definitely falls into dream car territory but you guys are tripping if you are saying the McLaren 650S, Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale, Ferrari 430 Scuderia, and Lamborghini Gallardo don't quality as super cars.

They don't by definition. They are exotics yes, supercars are meant to be the cream of the crop at that time.

The 650S isn't, the P1 is (even says this in their literature).

The 360 Challenge Stradale and 430 Scuderia aren't either. According to Ferrari their supercars are the (288) GTO, F40, F50, Enzo Ferrari and LaFerrari.

And the Gallardo definitely isn't.

I gotta disagree with you on that. They are entry level supercars but supercars nonetheless. Cars like the P1, LaFerrari, 918 Spyder, etc as hypercars are generally referred to as hypercars now. It is all just semantics though. They are all incredible cars regardless of what you want to call them.

Hypercars is some fancy new term made up by the media. The top notch has and always will be considered supercars if you ask me.

The local Ferrari dealer had a huge poster on the wall saying "supercar series"...with just the cars I mentioned on it.

At the NYIAS at their booth McLaren said the P1 was their "supercar" as well.

Either way, I can't afford one...

I think I define supercar as any car that you purchase when you win the lottery.

IMO it is like a definition of anything above a Nissan GT-R/Audi R8. I feel like they start the entry level of supercars.

That is pretty much the way I look at it. If it is a sports car that costs as much or more than a decent house it is pretty damn super.

There is that in between though.

For example, Jaguar F-Type. If you get the top spec of that it intrudes on the $100k range, but I do not consider it a supercar. Same with a Corvette Z06.
