Cat options

I'm in the middle of my TT kit install. My G8 exhaust is a little different than the Camaro. I need to make new catted connection pipes to my KOOKS exhaust. I've come across: Vibrant 7102 and the Magnaflow 59959 (although the MF are pre OBDII). I also found mandrel bending solutions who have a 5" dia cat, 200 CPSI and comes in 3" or 4" dia pipe. I quite like the big cat route for the best flow. What cats do you FI people run?

Hi Omega, the 59959 and also our 53009 universal cat would work well for your application, and a 3" inlet/outlet to match most aftermarket headers/catbacks. Please feel free to drop us a call or PM if you have any other questions!

don't do it

I would not recommend the Magnaflow CAT or any other for your boosted application. I blew out the packing on my Magnaflow 59959 on both sides. It completely blocked off one side of my exhaust and darn good thing I have a cross over pipe or I might have toasted my motor. And don't tell me it's all in the tune either. My car was tuned by the Matt Sorian and he's one of the best. Jannety says he has a CAT that will work but it's uber expensive and he does the old crab walk when you ask him about warranty.

Oh great. I just bought a MF 59959 to try and am waiting on the pipe to arrive.

I axed the Vibrant 7102 because it's not to be used for FI. Their GESI 7830 is what I *should* buy, but they are triple the price and I'm way over budget and short on time with my build currently.

I'm giving Eastern Catalytic cats a shot. See my thread here. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=442905

Make sure you read the last update I just gave today. The huge cat I thought I was going to get doesn't really exist anymore. That being said...I'm going to give the cats I did get a try.

I did a ton of searching and thought that these might be the best bet to try. I hate the stink of no cat exhausts...so I've got to figure this out one way or the other.
