2016 SCCA Championship Tour- car model counts

I am heading to the big SCCA Championship Tour in Georgia later this month and was pleased to see more than one 5th Gen Camaro competing this year. With the new STP class maybe the Camaro can be a little more competitive this year. It seems the new 2016 Mustangs with the track pack will be tough in FS. Still haven't seen any new 2016 Camaros run any SCCA events yet.
Anyways, with 275 entries for this event , here is a quick run down on competing models:
42 Miata ( go figure )
29 Corvette (seeing more each event)
26 FRS / BRZ ( ah the twins slipped to the Corvette count)
19 EVO / WRX
16 Mustang
13 Nissan 350/370Z
12 BMW
11 S2000
11 Mazda RX8
10 Honda Civic / CRX
09 Ford Focus / Fiesta ST
07 Lotus
07 Mini Cooper
06 Porsche
06 MR2 Spyder
05 Camaro (2nd- 4th Gen)
04 Camaro (5th Gen) 1 STP / 4 FS
04 VW GTI
02 Audi
02 Fiat

One of our locals moved from a 2014 1LE on RE71Rs to a 2016 SS on stock rubber in FS. He wasn't sure what to think initially since in a class dominated by wheel size - on paper the 1LE has more "potential" despite the weight - but he said it's worlds better and his times showed it even on far tamer tires. The new chassis is seriously quick...maybe too quick for FS, but time will tell.

I'll be interested to see how participation in STP pans out over the course of the season. Our local guys run in FS/CAM exclusively. I feel there are too many classes but I'll save that rant for another thread, good luck!

I guess the SCCA is trying to give the heavier cars somewhere to fit in. Not all regions I run in allow CAM so I end up running STU with all those AWD cars and such. CAM was not as easy as most think unless you are running with a lots of HP to "point and shoot". It seems STP is now almost the same PAX as STX so now I can see all those FRS/BRZ twins starting to cry foul. They enjoyed the ST class for many years now. As for all the many SCCA classes, I don't care which class I run in as much as how I finish in PAX.

I'm running this weekend and there's still some arguments going around about how so many people don't like the new STP class... yet all the people who don't like it aren't driving cars affected by it. I'm stickered up as STP, but maybe I should take some U's in case they move me to another class. New class, new problems.
