Last mod question [cam]
So I really want to go ahead and do a cam. I'm looking at going with the gpi cam but not exactly which one I would need to put me as close to 500 rwhp as possible without making the car almost impossible to daily drive. I was looking at the ss3 but what else would I have to buy/change being that the car is an L99 or a cam that aggressive for that matter? I tried searching but didn't find much on what parts needed to be purchased for the L99. Any feedback would be great. Thanks in advance.

I would reach out to GPI personally, explain your goals and what you want, they will steer you in the right direction.

Only GPI cam that's recommended without an aftermarket torque converter is the gpi ss1 vvt which will put you around 420-444 rwhp depending on the dyno and your supporting mods. Reach out to GPI and tell them your goals. They will point you in the right direction

Is that 420-440 with just the cam? If so that might work as I've already got kooks lt headers with HFC'S, CAI intake, borla atak catback back and a tune. No idea where I'm at with hp but I know I'm not near 500 lol

I think what Bo is saying is that even with all bolt on you may have installed (headers, intake, ported throttle body etc.) adding just a cam isn't going to be easy to reach your 500 rwhp. Are you porting your heads or putting aftermarket ones on?

I actually have no idea. I figured with all the other upgrades and tune I would be at 400 or more I could be wrong as I've never put it on a dyno and it's my first camaro so there's that. I guess it's safe to say I'm expecting too much from a cam?

It will be hard to reach 500 even with cam/heads in an auto. if you are dead set on 500, just go supercharger.

Only ones that I've seen on here that have above 500whp on a auto is rhino himself and el gallo. You will atleast need heads along with the cam and a happy dyno

Yikes that's definitely out of the budget. I'm curious to know what would be the total parts cost for bother the SS1 and ss3 are because at the end of the day it all comes down to price for me I don't want to spend more than what I've got. If I don't get to 5 that's cool.

I sent him a pm with some pretty specific questions but I haven't heard back yet except for telling me to check out the website.

Call GPI and talk to Ryan or Aaron. Your numbers you are looking for can be met.

If you think you want to get as close to 500 you can then dont go with the ss1. Save your money until you can go larger or you will end up doing it twice.
