Choices with Whipple

Ok, here is the question. I have a 2010 L99 car that I have just converted to ls3 with the LS9 cam, lifters and valve springs. I am almost done with the whipple install and then I will be installing the LPE twin mechanical pump setup (the one that runs off factory wiring without the controller. Injectors are ID 850's, with a cold air, and Stainless power headers and Full magnaflow exhaust. Planning to to get dyno tuned in a week.

My question is What pulley should I run to be safe on the street with? I have the stock 4.00, 3.75, and a 3.50. I am not looking for a dyno queen I could care a less about a big number. I want as much power possible but want to be safe at the same time.

Thanks in advance!

I don't think you want to run much past 9-10 psi with stock internals and running pump gas. Tough to say which pulley because you have a few mods there that will lower your boost as compared to a stock Whipple build. Call Whipple. Or call one of the vendors here who have done a lot of builds. They'll tell you which pulley will be best. Of the ones you have...I bet the 3.75 pulley is the one.

I don't really want to run meth anyway. I would like to stay under 10 psi. I should be able to finish the complete install this weekend. I bought a used setup, and have had to source some misc. parts here and there. But I think I have everything now. Doing the heater hose hide tonight, since the stock hoses don't really work with the whipple. I also have to install the fuel pump and the rear cradle bushings. This weekend will be busy since I have to work on Sunday.

I have a rough idle blower cam, 2" headers, Whipple (3.875 pulley), ID 850's, cold air, Corsa 2.5", ZL1 pump, and an ADM FPCM.

I am running 9.9 lbs at 6600 RPM with that setup and 640rwhp on 91 octane.

*If I could do the fuel pump over, or if I ever have to, I will cut a hole in the back seat sheet metal. I had to drop the whole rear-end out of the car. Good luck trying to get the evap box out without dropping the rear.

I'm currently at 13-14 psi with a 3.625 pulley, 10 percent lower, e85 tuned with flex fuel sensor upgraded, fore dual pump, made about 9-10 passes at the track, car runs great and is tuned very safe not making 800 rwhp, but on a better dyno or climate, would make that kind of power, def. look into getting suspension, clutch, traction, and have spent a lot more money into building suspension lately, building lsx block now with built internals.

Wow, That is a ton of power. I called whipple and they told me to run a 3.500 pulley to be around 10psi with this cam, headers and exhaust. I am thinking that may be a little drastic. I just really want to be as safe as possible. Hearing what you guys are seeing with 3.875 and 3.625 pulleys I am thinking the 4.00 is probably the safest way to go if I would like to stay 8-10 psi.

I have used 2SSLincolnSS2 JREcam in a few cars with a 6sp manual and 3.5 pulley 10.40'@136-137. The manual car made 725rwhp.

a lot depends on elevation where you are at. I am running the LS9 cam, 1-7/8 long tube headers, and full 3" exhaust. When I lived in Albuquerque, about 6000' feet above sea level, the stock 4" pulley was only good for 7 psi. I switched to the 3.75" and I came back up to 9 psi. Now that I live in North Carolina, about 350' above sea level, that same 3.75" pulley has me making a little over 11.5-12 psi. I am tuned very safe, and the car makes 650 RWHP on 93 octane.
If you want to remain below 10 psi, stick with the 4" pulley. You will lose about 1 psi of boost for every 2000' of elevation, and according to Whipple, gain about a 1 psi of boost per .125" reduction in pulley diameter.
