I upgraded to MGW. It is great, though it is arguable whether it is enough over the 1LE shifter to be worth the time and expense. I can't speak for Hurst.
BTW, if you're looking for an improvement in notchiness, I don't think you'll get it with upgrading the shifter. Shifter upgrades give you good feel, but not less notchy, IMO. For the notchiness, try changing the fluid. I recommend Redline D4 or a 50/50 mix of D4 and MTL if your car is a 'warm weather only' vehicle. |

Agree, I changed both and the fluid made the difference. I use royal purple but any top end synthetic will improve the experience. All you need is 75w 90w.

With the MGW can you use the stock shifter ball and cover?

JMT - you are quoting weight for the differential, not the trans.
Chris1SS - yes, you can use it. They have a few options. Check out MGW's website. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yes you can. The stock knob isn't compatible with the flat stick version but MGW has versions that accept the stock knob.
I have an MGW I love it.

i upgraded to red line d4 about 800 miles back. just seems like the shifter is not real smooth. i understand the aftermarket shifter has better bushing's.like you say it may not be worth the 300+ dollars

I was thinking about upgrading my shifter. The stock suede is coming off already, haven't even hit 30k miles yet.

I just swapped Royal Purple fluid into my trans and flushed the stock fluid. Shifts felt smoother.

Going on about 2 weeks with the Hurst, I love it, but its a very mechanical feel now, no nonsense in between you and the shift fork, and it is noisy in some gears, dependent on power input

my manual (2015) says calls for GM Part No. 88861800 which is the old dexron 3 more or less. red line recommends d4 as the replacement. still have problems putting basically atf in a man. trans. times change i guess
