How to make the 12 volt socket always powered?

I have a dashcam that I would like to run all the time when I am not in my car, but when I turn the car off the sockets lose power, and the dashcam turns off.

You'll need to wire it straight into the fuse block. I used a tap-a-circuit on the fuse for the trunk release. It's always powered. Realize that you will drain the battery if you do not use a power monitor like PowerMagic pro. This will allow you to set a limit to turn the camera off after a set time and if the battery voltage drops too low.

Pop out this 4 prong Relay and replace it with a Jumper (this jumper only fits one way catercorner across).
Your 12v receptical on the console will remain hot. Also, anything connected to the two 20 amp spare fuses (#17 & #18) next to it will remain hot as well.

I believe Diode Dynamics carries these jumpers for a couple bucks.

I am assuming this will make both 12v sockets live? the one in the console and the one by the shifter?

Is anything else affected by removing the relay and installing the jumper?

Thanks!

EDIT: I can't find that part on diode dynamics. What is the correct name of the part?

No, this will not make the one inside the console hot.

I also looked on their site and didn't see it but I'm pretty sure the guy who gave me mine gets his there. I will double check with him. He's getting me a different one that makes the one inside the console hot because my radar detector is connected to one of those 20 amp fuses and I don't want it on all the time. I need one hot for a wired GoPro.

My dashcam is hooked up to the one inside the console, so I would need to have that one be hot all the time as well.

Ughhhh that sucks. But if it makes you feel any better shipping was 9 bucks for me.

EDIT: I found these guys had it with cheaper shipping. https://nightowlleds.com/console-fus...r?search=jumpe

I wouldn't do that, it may cause your battery to drain. I would look at something like this https://www.blackboxmycar.com/collec...link-battery-b
this won't drain your battery.

^This.
You can also use
https://www.blackboxmycar.com/produc...c-pro-blackvue

But I would not just plug the camera into a port that has 12 volts constantly. You are asking for trouble.

Will the jumper cause the battery to drain just sitting there, or only if I have something plugged into the 12v port by the shifter?

I installed mine a couple months ago, and it's working great. My battery doesn't die or anything.

I ordered this one http://sjmautoprod.com/5th-gen-camar...rt-jumper.html
