ZL1 or Gen6?
Please don't flame me! I am here to get the opinion of all the current ZL1 owners as I am having trouble making a decision. I am ever so close to pulling the trigger one one of two cars, help steer me in the right direction.
Option #1, 2014 Black ZL1 with every option that I know of except for the sunroof. Only 343 miles and is cleaner than any new car I have ever bought. Option #2, 2016 Camaro 2SS. It is also black with the two tone white/black interior and black wheels. The car has the magnetic ride control, auto (girlfriend likes that), and NAV. Thank you for the help! Excited to be back into the Camaro Family! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

ZL1. I find the Gen 6 to seem a little small inside. Also you will have something that you dont see every day. Won't be long and you will see Gen 6 SSs everywhere. If it comes down to your girl friend liking the auto better maybe a new girl. Just a thought

I sat in a gen 6 and it is noticeably smaller inside. Just FYI.
When I see a gen 6 SS on the road, I think, "Oh cool, a new SS". When I see a ZL1 on on the road I think, " HOLY SHIT, there's a ZL1!" ...and I own one. LOL! It pretty much goes that way everywhere I go in mine also. My wife says it makes her uncomfortable because everyone is always staring at us.

I was in the same situation recently and ended up going with the '14 ZL1, no regrets!
I did not like the smaller interior of the Gen6 and I still don't much care for the body style, even of the Z (it's mean no doubt, but...). That said, get what makes you happy Just my $0.02 |

14 ZL1 if you like the retro Camaro look. 16 SS if you like the Euro look that most every car seems to be heading in as far as style.

Bottom line is that both cars are nice, but whether it's a gen 5 or 6, the ZL1 is special. Its the name, the look, AND the performance. For someone who is on the fence like this, I suspect you'll regret the SS down the road. Just depends how much the look, name, and uniqueness on the road mean to you. Personally, I couldn't go SS after having a ZL1.

You're comparing day to night. The '16 is nice. The ZL1 is AWESOME. i had a 2SSRS. Impressive. I now have a '15 ZL1. Jaw dropping. Besides, you will regret not buying the ZL1 a year or two from now, as the '16 will just another Camaro in a sea of Camaros. ~ The ZL1 will never be that. Besides, the '16 will depreciate 30% in that time too.

I was considering this in March. I test drove a 2014 BRM ZL1. Had every option except sunroof which isn't needed. Loved the car, the dealership was lowballing me hard on my 1LE trade in and wouldn't budge. I didn't do the deal.
Similarities: Both cars have Mag Ride...and I'm so sold on that suspension. Even PTM 5 race mode felt more comfortable for street than my 1LE. Both cars have HUD which is a nice to have tool. I track my car and my 1LE doesn't have it because it's a 1SS. Pros: ZL1 has more power and will be a special car. In a couple years the 6th Gen SS you buy will be "just another SS." The ZL1 is also an excellent platform to start with if you intended to go mod crazy, can easily surpass 1000HP. Pros: 6th Gen interior is better and modern. It also appears Chevy solved the LT1 engine problems. I for 1 like the 6th Gen styling...car appears more athletic and agile. Structurally the suspension is better and platform is lighter. Both cars have the same 1/4 mile time surprisingly. Verdict...I'd pick up a 5th Gen ZL1. It will be cheaper than a 6th Gen 2SS and the Z will perform just as well for a long time. Personally: I'm waiting til next year to decide between a 2017 1LE or a 5th Gen Z/28 |
