Decel pop. Not backfire. It's just how the tune/valvetrain works

His is louder because he doesn't have the huge resonator like the L99's have, he has 2 small ones, unless he has aftermarket. Mine is an L99 with headers and aftermarket exhaust and it pops pretty loud. What actually makes it pop is the DFCO,, deceleration fuel cutoff..Pretty cool sound!!

Right I have borla atak catback kooks headers no cats. But I feel like his is so much more frequent. I have a dyno tune as well. If I do the ls3 conversion (which I planned on already) would it happen more frequently? Thanks all!

can you decelerate in a lower gear?
try leaving it in third, coming down from say 80. is your AFM tuned out? this might have more to do with tranny and driving style. |

Because the auto will drop the RPMs and coast. As long as the manual is in gear and the clutch pedel not depressed, the wheels turning will get that motor cranking at those higher RPMs while the full gets cut to sub-combustion levels.

Put your car in Sport (M) mode and downshift at higher RPM's... I have longtubes, hi flow cats and NO resonator... this sucker pops like CRAZY... and I love it.
However, if I decel in regular Drive (D) mode... when the car downshifts for you it's much less frequent since it's at lower RPM's. |

It's mainly because as you slow down in a LS3 car, as with most manual trans cars, if you have the clutch engaged, it's using engine braking and causing the pops as well as the tune. An auto car can engine brake too, but it's softer so to speak because of the tq converter absorbing some of the shock. That's the best way I can explain it really.

Your car has the torque converter adding some slack between the drivetrain and the engine. A clutch is directly connected.
