2012 automatic lfx gear swap to 3.73

Ive been looking into gear swaps for the automatic v6 and am having a hard time figuring out exactly what needs to be done. Do I need to get a SS rear end then change the gears or is it there any one out there that sells them for the v6??

Yes, v6 auto needs a SS rear, hubs, and axles. I started with 3.73 and then swapped it for the 3.91. You will find the 3.91 is much cheaper and make the car feel stronger even though numerically 3.73 and 3.91 are close.

Let me know how it goes and a ballpark figure for pricing. I really want to do this but I feel like I don't know enough about it to pull it off myself

I looked into it back in April/may. In the classified members section you can find a used LSD housing and diff. for between 500-750 dollars depending on miles and what gears are currently in it. Talked to a transmission/rear end specialist and if I brought him the rear end, and he bench rebuilt it with 3.73 gears it was1100 dollars. 450 for American axle gears, 3.73, about 200 for bearings, races, onetime use bolts, gaskets. About 550 labor. Then used hubs and axles vary on mileage and how bad the seller wants to get rid of them, plan on at least 200 or so. Then the install, it ain't easy. And it ain't cheap to have someone do it, 4-6 hours at whatever rate. Then you need to have a tuner change the ecu to your new gear ratio, I was told it was 100 to purchase the license to get into the ecu and whatever the tech/tuner would charge for the change. Cheap end, if you do the extract and install ,a little over two grand, pay someone to remove and install around three grand. You may find cheaper parts or labor, oh yeah the drive shaft will be needed also. The 3.91 gears are cheaper thru a GM dealership, as they are used in the 1le ss Camaro.

Richmond has a 3.55 ring and pinion set for the automatic v-6, it only fits on the 2LS 2.92 ratio differental carrier. It will not fit a 1LT or 2LT auto, ONLY 2LS model.

Yeah , I was like for three grand, i could sell my car , take the money from that plus the 3g's, and get a v-8 that would be a better alottment of resources. Or not.

Exactly. I'm still paying for mine too, so the monthly payment to get into a lower mile ss would be like 20 more a month and my insurance would be cheaper. It's only like 16 more hp but 60 more torque....and then what 400 bucks for the 1le gears installed? Bah.

If I come into some money I'll have a hard choice on turbo v6 vs v8
