The Key!

Who else hates the key fob that comes with our cars? Every other time i go to get in my car the trunk is popped, or when im watching tv the panic alarm is going off. All because GM got some stupid Strattec keyless entry remote that places the buttons flush with the surface of the housing and doesnt protect them from being pressed while in your pocket.

Its bad enough to go from a vehicle with a smart key to a switchblade style that has to be folded and unfolded everytime but these buttons are annoying! And why the hell did they reverse the lock and unlock buttons? The lock button has been on the left on every GM remote i have ever had until now.

Who thought the same style key from a 99 VW would be cool for a 2010 muscle car? And its just not the 2010 Camaro, the 2010 Equinox uses the same style. I really hope this isnt the future of GM keys and fobs. Its a big step backwards, give me a tradional key and fob if your not going to go keyless GM.

i guess since the car is soooooo amazing you really are reaching for something to complain about

what you describe above has never happened to me. The buttons don't annoy me and they never get pressed when in my pocket. Also, complaining about the switchblade key...i mean how hard is it to press the button to make it flip it out.

LOL I do love the car and its a little bit of a stretch but the buttons suck, unfolding the key isnt bad its just annoying having to fold it down everytime, i liked having the keyless on my CTS where i could keep everything in my pocket and still have the car open and start for me.

ya. that keyless entry/start seems like it would spoil you for any other type of key system....

I concur, I've had the same problems with the buttons flush with the surface of the housing - very bad design. However, I think I'll keep the and over look this issue.

Do you guys love the car so much you keep the key in your pocket all the time? Maybe don't put it in a pocket with other stuff in it... Back pocket or front pocket? Back pocket it is just like an a** phone call.. front, maybe willy is getting a little happy with it?

No problems for me, and I love the switchblade style......

Yepp the trunk poppin' open has happened to me a few times and its just annoying to have to get out of the car right after I finished backing out and am ready to burn off into the horizon! My neighbor laughed at me one day at how fast I could pop open the door, slam down the trunk, jump back into the the drivers seat , and fly down the road. I didn't see the deebag laughin until I took the turn down the street but if I had seen him doing it while I was in the process I would have flipped em an ol' school American birdy!

anyway... The switch blade is not that bad, but could have better though.

I had a 05 Vette and loved the no key start and the fact the fob never had to come out of the pocket, just get in and drive. This fob sucks big time. The button for the switchblade key has no ridge to prevent accidental opening in my pocket which happens everyday. Poor design for sure but the car, the car, the car is the greatest.

I like the key, however, I'd rather have the keyless start option with a RFID in my pocket to tell the car when I'm in it.

My Harley has a key but it is unnecessary to use it. I have the smart security system. I have a fob in my pocket that the bike reads from 4 feet. If I am farther away than that, it will not start and the alarm goes off. Guess who makes this for Harley-Davidson, Delphi, yes the same ex GM subsidiary that makes the electronics and fuel injection for the Camaros. These are fine automobiles though, and all of this stuff is nothing but nitpicking. I am careful about putting the key into my pocket and stopped having the trunk pop open on me. My gen 4 would also do this though. The trunk button would sometimes get depressed in my pocket.
