What switch mode do I want to drive in to ensure my bands don't wear out too soon due to soft shifts? Traction Control ON ok? Stabil-Track off? Competition Mode? I swear once I pressed or long pressed the button and had both off at the same time but I am a little confused as to how the switch works regarding what's what.

Leave the switches alone and just drop it down to M. This will put it in Sport Mode and she runs great that way. Also you will be ready to tapshift down some gears if you need to eat a Mustang or some other scruffy animal.

You could drive it with one tap turning off the traction control but then you rear tires will be bald like mine.

This is Torque Management my friend. The shifts feel soft because the computer is pulling power during shifts. Trust me, this is how GM is able to warrenty for 100K. It's actually easier on the tranny.
