Exhaust Questions

First off, I installed the loudmouth 1 last night, sounds good, wich it was louder, and the deceleration popping is annoying.

First question...I have heard that you can program the popping out of the car. Will a hand help tuner like the Diablo Sport do this or do I need to take it to a shop?

2nd...Does anybody know a good tuner in the central Pennsylvania area?

3rd...The exhaust sounds much better, but I wish it was louder. Do all 4 cats have oxygen sensors? What would removing 2 cats do as far as throwing codes? How will the car run?

If you have an automatic trans, thn you can turn off the AFM and it will help the popping A LOT. You will need a real tuner to do it, the handhelds will nto do it. Also you will not get rid fo all the popping, you WILL have that in an exhaust that is so free-flowing.

I could set you up with some tuners here in western PA that I know and trust. If you are open to coming out here for an afternoon of tuning, I would be hapy to set you up, just PM me and I can help you out.

To get a little more sound I would remove a set of resonators...That is the easiest and safest way to get some more sound. It is an easy job.

I kinda like the popping. Happens reliably at 1200 rpm when slowing down...

ZZcamaro is right, ctk1, the resonators, not the cats, are deadening your sound. You should have installed a true catback exhaust or just eliminated the mufflers (muffler delete).
With an auto, the AFM is easily "turned off" by putting the shifter in the M position and then using either of the tap-shift buttons. As far as I can tell though, it has no effect on the popping. With the auto and no mufflers, mine (popping) is not loud or annoying.

By muffler delete I mean getting rid of the stock mufflers and replacing them with straight pipe. I believe the SLP Loudmouth I does incorporate a baffling chamber and packing of some sort and is not just a pipe.

From all the pics and discussion I have seen it is just a bolt on DIY muffler delete. Basically an axle back kit that is just a pipe. It is pretty expensive for what it is IMO.

I have a L99 w/ a CAI and added the LMII. I have no "popping" & just hear the AFM a little more. I think anytime you increase your exhuast volume you are going to hear the AFM sound difference more. I will be doing a tune to eliminate the AFM as soon as I'm ready to cut my powertrain warranty loose.

Sorry for sounding ignorant, can some one expalin what AFM is. I just picked up a 1SS/RS automatic (I guess that is the L99 not the LS3 as was told). I would rather have the 6 speed but couldnt pass on the deal on this one as it was a cancelled order and was their as they rolled it off the truck. OMG I love this car. Anyways the exhaust is where Chevy really missed the mark, so trying to rectify that. Very interesting adn informative posts here on the CAI as well, CALI car so have to check on smoging that.

If you don't like the popping sound consider an exhaust with mufflers. Perhaps you would like the loudmouth 2 better. It comes with mufflers but is still on the loud side.
