Warranty Question for Headers, CAI, and Tune
Hey guys, I want to get the ARH, the Vararam CAI when it comes out and get a tune to get everything going right. But I don't want to void my warranty especially since I bought the extended one. Has anyone done this and asked there dealer about it, and had any problems? Any info would be helpful.
Thanks, Jim |

Everything should be passable for warranty work, except the tune... No ifs ands or buts about it. A tune will most likely void your warranty...
Though, technically they're supposed to prove that your mod cause the problem, but... |

Just make sure you can go back to your stock tune before you go to the dealer and you should be fine. Look into Vector Motorsports.

Inferno both gentleman up above me have nailed it on the head. The only part you mentioned that would void a warranty would be a Tune.
This is how I look at it........After about 3,000 miles if the car hasnt really had any major problems then screw the warranty. Understand you are only voiding the powertrain warranty on the car. When it comes to the powertrain the little small things are easy to fix. IMO unless you lose an engine or a Tranny the warranty will be awsome. If you have ever dealed with a service department then you will know even with a warranty unless Gm/Ford/Dodge or whoever can duplicate the problem that wont always fix it. I'm mechanically inclined so if the small stuff happens im there and able to take over....if you are not tool handy then you will need that warranty. Gm's powertrain is proven I dont know many who use that warranty to replace engines or trannys. ITs not like the LS3 is something New to the Market. I'm driving mine for 3K miles after that im getting my tune and hoping for the best ![]() You may get a tune have a good rep with the service department and still get work done if they want to be cool. they have to prove the tune did the hurt or problem however they can say what they want................ lol |

Good to know... I'm in the same situation. Just wondering about current and future mods.

I would recommend that you get a copy of the disclaimer from the parts manufacturer. If the manufacturer has a disclaimer that looks like one of these below than you are guilty of "tampering" with the emissions system according to the EPA's Clean Air Act. Since GM has to certify that that vehicle will meet emissions standards for 50,000 miles, they no longer consider your car a street car.
Since long tube headers require the relocation of the converters they are an automatic "fail". Not trying to be the messanger of doom here, but you should be aware of the actual law before you proceed and not someone's opinion of "what you can get away with". “Not legal for sale for, or use on, pollution-controlled vehicles.” “Legal only for racing vehicles which may never be used upon a highway. Not applicable or intended for street or highway use.” Special Note: Be aware that use of either disclaimer assumes additional responsibilities with regard to accountability. Specifically, records of all sales should be kept to provide a “trail” to the number of products sold as compared to the potential size of the market segment. For example, if you are selling parts for a specific category of race cars and your total sales exceed the projected number of such cars in use, it could be deemed you are selling outside the boundaries of the market segment you’ve specified. Such practice can become a violation of the Act and CARB policy.! SEMA Black Book - A Guide to Emissions Clarification of Specialty Automotive Aftermarket Products

in the event a dealer rejects a claim due to the tune, or anything else, is your VIN tagged in a database making it impossible to change the the outcome of any subsequent claims?
For what it's worth, I have this setup and have been fine for 8000 miles so far, no regrets. |

It sucks, that this car has so much potential to sound so great, because I think everyone can agree it needs to breath better. But I gotta go speak to the dealer and see what they say, because they have the final say regardless. Thanks again guys.

Tune does not always void your warrenty. Ask your service manager.

I wouldn't be surprised if Onstar was keeping track of who had the best tune...
Does onstar get a flag when a Camaro SS overtakes a vette? |
