Picking a helmet...Snell required

Looking to get a helmet, as the tracks here require anyone running faster than an 8.8 1/8 or 13.9 1/4 to wear a helmet.

They also require SNELL rated helmets.

I dont go to the track much, so I dont really want to spend $3-400 on a helmet like i did with my motorcycle helmet.

Any recommendations for something decent without breaking the bank?

There was a local store that sold dirt bikes and parts. They had a full face with snell logo for under $100. There appear to be some on amazon too, but your first helmet you really want to get sized right.

I'd suggest maybe a polaris or Yamaha local to you and tell them your looking for a snell rated helmet as cheap as possible.

Search ZAMP on ebay, SNELL 2010 & 2015 from $125 to $200, I got a SNELL 2015 for $125 so I'm covered for awhile.

It maybe, but thats what is required by NHRA, IHRA and almost all road courses. Snell 2010 or newer Snell 2005's expire at the end of this year.

Open face SA snell 2015 are around $170 at Jegs. You can get away with an "M" but for the few extra bucks I would buy the SA. I don't believe a full face helmet is needed as they are more $$$ then an open face.

Snell

Zamp motorcycle helmet is what I bought. Paid 110 for a 2015 rating helmet. Serves both bike and drag.

Make sure you get a helmet rated for Car use not motorcycle. They are different. Car use is fire retardant materials and have a SA rating. Motorcycle use are M rated and don't have fire retardant materials

Which is funny... you would think they would require ECE R22/DOT rather than Snell.

Find a Shop that has helmets in inventory so you try them on! There is nothing worse than a Helmet that doesn't fit right! Different Manufacturers helmets fit differently and there are many head shapes & sizes.

I'm a Helmet Freak (my new Snell 2016 Carbon Fibre's Retail was over $2,500) and I have had inexpensive & expensive helmets - there is a difference
