Cold Starts

Its getting a little chilly in the midwest, and I noticed BumbleBee doesnt like it. I remember I would get in, hed rev up to a nice lil pop, then smooth idle. Now on startup, sounds rough, like a cat fight, no more "Im here to party" pop. Normal for this car? Or does he just need to grow a pair?

Funny how each car is different. Mine has been starting better and idling smoother now that it is colder? Also can feel the cool weather HP increase.

Agreed on performance, its just the start seems abnormal for a cold start.

Mine has smoothed out as well. It starts and drops off high/fast idle quicker now than when it was 60 - 70 degrees.
I live in the Chi-town area so its been in the 40 - 50 degree range the last 10 days or so.
I notice the increase in HP as well. She likes it cold

Not down by you. Thats for sure!
A little chilly for this time of year up here.
But in a couple months that same 40 degree day will be like a summer day.....as compared to the usual temps in the teens.

My car actually does this too. From the datalog it looks as if GM is putting in a large amount of negative timing in during open loop (initial start). The reason for this is to heat the cats up quicker for emisions. My question to you is, do you have any mods?

V8 kids. That's 376 cu in of Detroit muscle.

Just think of your Camaro as a fine Women. It might take a little bit to warm her up, but once she's there you'll reap all the rewards.

A 4cyl ricer is like a sorority girl. She warms up fast but once you get Her there you'll be thinking to yourself "Is that all she's got"!

Negitive all stock. I was just worried. Maybe the ECU needs to adjust to the change in the pressure of cold air.

Unfortunately the ECU during startup is in open loop. This means the only way to change it is a tune or flash from GM. After about 5 seconds the O2's are hot enough and the ECM goes into closed loop. In closed loop the computer starts fine tuning everything and that is why it smooths out. Before heated O2's, it took about a minute for the system to close. Those were the days of shitty (fuel injected) cold starts.

Especially on "cold starts" you'll want to take it easy on your right foot until it gets up to temp or atleast till idle drops to the usual rpm for your car. I think it's an lsx thing. My wife's 2000 mustang gt seems to sound the same no matter what the temp.

I love the way mine sounds on a cold start!

Agreed.
I wait until she drops to regular idle before I even put her in gear.
A habit from driving older carbuerated cars
