Does every Chevy Dealer charger a diagnostic

I know I needed at least my front break pads changes and maybe my back so I decided to go to my closest Chevrolet dealer to get them done since I trust them the most . I was expecting maybe 200 for the front at most and was kind of shocked when he said 280 after taxes for just the front. It was 60 in parts and 250 in labor that was 117 in actual labor and 135 in diagnostic . Is this every Chevrolet dealer that charges a diagnostic even when I say what the problem is or just my bad luck?

I believe most if not all do have a 'diagnostic' charge; I know mine does. However, it is supposed to be deducted/voided if they actually do the repair/maintenance' If you choose not to have them do the work, then they will charge the fee ... basically, they're not going to spend their time tracking down/confirming what needs to be done for free so that you can take it home and do the repair yourself or take it somewhere else.

Thats what I thought they usually do . He said they had a special going on for 250 I just don't get it . TBH I think I need to find a shop with high ratings cause dealers are getting crazy

I took mine in to discuss with them the crack or separation in my dash at the air bag. Something notorious in 2010 cars. They claimed they had never heard of it, and that they would charge a $ 90 diagnostic fee to have a tech look at the crack and give an estimate of what it would take to change the dash.

I drove off.

Did they quote on OEM pads? They are about $150 for OEM front SS pads.. Check them out.. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I would not use aftermarket.. I'm not going to get into a debate myself .. too many threads doing the same.

The front brake swap is literally a 30 minute job, also sounds like they didn't go back with OEM Brembos. My dealer tried to give me duralasts(lol) so I went ahead and got Brembo pads from Amazon.

It's the easiest brakes to work on out of any car I've ever worked on

Also to answer your specific question, if I come in and ask for them to check something for me they usually do it free of charge

Sounds like I got screwed all over. They had duralast pads as the replacement. Smh I didn't even think about it and it's the winter so I didn't want to do it myself

Yep, brake pad replacement on this car is the simplest I've ever done. :P

You should probably do a small bleed on them too. You can do it with the wheel on if youre flexible.

I've been quoted just under 500 to change the fronts + resurface. I decided to buy the OEM pads for around 200 and do the labor myself. Resurface was 70 at a tire shop.

As for the diagnostic... I think for cars under warranty its free

I bought some AC Delco replacement pads at Autozone for around $50 and changed them in my garage in about 30 minutes. I had to lose the roller skates to fit my 17" Welds.

you have to ask for OEM parts. I worked at a ford dealer. the customers just assumed they were getting oem when they were really getting cheap carquest at a huge markup.
