Exclamation AC belt issues...

In 5000 miles I have gone through 3 AC belts. Two NAPA brand belts (lasted about two weeks each) and a Gates belt (lasted about two months). 2010 SS stock except for exhaust. Each belt was installed with the special tool. There is no wobble on the AC pulley, nor is there any rough spots while checking with my hand. I've heard that this is a common issue. The belt eventually walks off the front (typically only 1 rib) and screeches for a few days before splitting. Has there been a permanent fix for this? Visibly I see absolutely no reason for this to be happening.

I never seen or heard about the A/C belt being an issue but hey anything is possible. I have heard about the serpentine main belt as an issue and I had mine shred to like speghetti strands. Did you check the A/C compressor motor for any engagement issues? I would check and see if when in use it is engaging properly. The pulley part on the compressor should move forward. I wonder if yours is not in correct position and when engage its pushing to far forward then the belt is walking off or could be an actual issue with the compressor.

I've seen multiple threads about this issue but no clear solution. I'll have to wait until I get another belt on to see if the clutch engages properly. So you're saying it might not come out all the way? I don't know anything about AC clutches.

correct. Or may be coming out fully but the compressor may be to far forward so it is walking off when it engages. Start the car and have someone inside car. Watch the compressor motor as person inside turns on and off a\c. Check both modes; reg and on max. You might see the issue. Does the belt walk off toward front of car to bumper or walk back to to the motor? If it is going to front at walk off then the compressor motor is to far forward and you need to move it back.

I currently don't have a belt for the car at all. I did have someone jump in and switch the AC on and OFF. The AC clutch does move outward slightly and then seems to recess back to its normal range when the AC is turned on. Basically from what I can tell, is that it doesn't stay forward. Also, when I do have an issue with the belt, it's walking towards the bumper off of the crank.

I have the same exact issue. Mine was replaced 2.5 months ago and it has done it again.

It seems quite a few people are having this issue. something needs to be done about this.

Yeah no kidding. I bought the car with 50,000 miles on it. Im starting to wonder if the previous owner had this problem too. Wouldn't surprise me that the dealer knew about it already. Anyway, I've heard of people replacing the pulley and having no success. My guess would be the compressor doesn't quite fit right from the factory. But no idea.

Well it's weird. I've had my car since it was new and just this year it started doing it

That's pretty odd. I'm starting to wonder what this could be. Maybe the bolts aren't torqued correctly and have loosened over time? Just a random guess.

How about trying a OEM belt? Maybe the aftermarket are just not exact in the specs? Have not run into the issue myself yet.

In other forums/threads people say the Gates belt is the best one to go with. Somebody also said that Gates supplies the GM belts, although I'm not sure of the truth behind that. The main reason I haven't bought one of those is the price.

Both belts replaced on my car are OEM! Something else is causing this issue...not the belt itself

Possible the damper is separating?

I'll take a closer look at the balancer. After scouring the entire Internet for about the 5th time.. I have determined that even a VERY slight wobble can cause this issue. Apparently the L99s are known to have this issue with the balancer.
