What do I need for a reliable cam setup?
The engine will be coming apart as I believe I have bad piston ring. Since it will be coming apart I plan on putting cam in. Now my question is to make a reliable cam setup what should I be upgrading? Car will be daily driven and currently has 70k miles. 2011 SS LS3 M6

I asked this same question, and I was told all of this.
Website is currently down it seems, but when it gets fixed that link should take you to a camshaft kit.

A good cam swap will cost you about 1800 in parts alone if you do it right. That is including a new cam. Like the old saying goes, cheap, fast and reliable. Pick 2 and go from there.

Springs, lifters, seals, retainers/locks and pushrods dependent on cam size and just to be safe high volume oil pump.

Things to replace: Lifters, springs, retainers, locks, and seals. Things to check: push rod length (lifters should have about 3/4 turn preload), piston to valve (about .080 intake and .110 minimum exhaust) and the oil pump (check for signs of wear). If the pump is good it does not need to be replaced, if the pump is bad I would replace it with a factory LSA pump. Most pump failures are because of three reasons. First the o ring in the pickup tube is not installed correctly and does not seal. Second the pump is not clearenced correctly. Third there is a failure else where in the engine and the pump picks up the debris. We have built several LS engines and the only time we run a milling pump is on an engine that makes 1000+ hp.
Hope this helps and good luck |
