Callaway Z/28 opinions

I'm really kicking around the idea of having the Callaway 652 package done to my Z/28. Does anyone here own one that could comment or give details about your impressions? I've been down the road of modified cars before, but never one that wears a reputable name like Callaway.

I absolutely love this car and think this could be the best of the best with the Callaway package. But since I've never driven one, I'd love to hear comments. Does the added weight of the supercharger change the perfect balance?

$20,000 is a lot to swallow, but having a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty and their name attached would make it worth it...I think.

BTW, I do not like the new body style. So waiting for a new Z/28 is out of the question. I can't spend money on something I don't like the looks of.

I can't speak to the quality and durability of a Callaway upgrade, but I think the car is perfect as is. I prefer the naturally aspirated engine. Heck, I can rarely really use all 505 horses so adding more wouldn't be worth it to me. Also, I recall some who've added substantial power reporting wheel hop issues, but others can weigh in on that. $20k is some serious coin, but if it's what you want then go for it!

Agree on the new body style...it's not ugly, but I believe our car is far more appealing. Plus, the next gen will not be as hardcore (or at least I doubt it will be due to sales performance of the gen 5....it was simply too hardcore for the average joe).

If you want supercharged, get a ZL1
If you want to make the Z28 ridiculous, then do a heads-cam package, it changes the car into a nasty beast!

I would do a head/cam/header/intake package instead in my opinion, can get to right around 600whp with that which is more than the callaway package.

You'd get heatsoak on the track with the callaway package as well, which takes away from what the Z/28 is built for.

Instagram Lashway Motorsports and click on the White Z28
They have a short clip and some photos

I also have this short idle clip, I only picked the car up yesterday, so pics and clips are limited right now. I can tell you the car in transformed! Borderline over the top!

Well.... I said it was perfect as is, but that is tempting! :-)

My car has a lot done to it. Please see my information on the Z for details. You can drive it around town easily and when you get on it the car truly is amazing. A cam & heads is a good call to start and you may be happy just doing that. My overall package I could not be happier. Keep us posted on what you decide to do. Callaway is a reputable company and stands behind their work. In my eyes you can not go wrong with a vendor like Callaway.

SNOWMANVIL bought his Z/28 after it had been transformed into an HPE 600 or 650 package. It pulled like crazy and snapped You back in the seat in 1st, at the shift and into second->>> HARD, here in Tulsa we were quickly approaching 3rd and 90 to 100 when I reminded him that the Tulsa PD would have no mercy and he came off the pedal.

So; I's say if it floats your boat do it, but don't supercharge or turbo charge. If 650 to 670 isn't' enough, the do a 450 - 500ci engine, and you can pull out 825 HP NA like Black Dog Racing. The Gen 5 Z/28's nature is all about naturally aspirated hot rod engine... Leave supercharged to the purported but not Chevy disclosed FOR SURE Z/28 gen 6...

personally I think it would be interesting to use an Osmo Engineering dual throttle body setup; where they do a slave drive TB tied to the first TB; so that the engine controls control both throttle bodies simulataneously ..probably capable of 700 to 725 hp NA

or even better the new MercuryRacing 4 valve heads - which one day will be available as heads to go on the stock bottom end..again, good for 700 to 750 hp NA.

I had the Hennessey HPE 650 package... I bought the car with it on it. I didn't like the quality of the materials they used so I upgraded. Have 609 HP to the wheels with heads cam package... If you do this... be sure to sleeve the block with Darton sleeves.

I would take the 20k and spend it on brake pads, tires and take a couple driving classes.
Take the car to HPDE events and enjoy what GM had in mind when THEY engeneered the car.
You'll never know what it feels like until you tap into the potential of the car by passing a few GT3 and M3 type cars.

Hmmm... Crushinator asks, "Does anyone here own one that could comment or give details about your impressions (of the Callaway 652 package on a Z)?"

The OP did not ask us if we thought he should spend the money on the package. He did not ask us what WE would do if we were going to spend the money on our Z's. Nor, did he ask us what car he should dump his Z/28 for if all he wants is a supercharger.

Yet, that seems to be all the comments and replies have been for the most part.

No, what he asked for was for comments from people who may have the Callaway 652 package on their car and what they thought about how it affected the car.

So, if ANYONE here has such a Callaway 652 Z/28 by all means chime in - you are exactly who he needs to hear from.

The rest of you who are telling him what to do instead - when he clearly did not ask that - are way off base.

Maybe they're trying to tell OP something?

I'm sure they are. But they are answering a question he is not asking.

I'm not saying their suggestions are not valid because most are good suggestions - IF the goal is only more HP/Torque, etc.

But the OP wants to know about the Callaway.
