A Day Slaying the Dragon (or any other awesome driving roads?)

Alright everyone, its winter and the Z28 hasn't seen sun in weeks. Honestly this is the first car I've put away in the winter, and not driving something fun is killing me!!!. I even daily drove my old z06 with some snow tires when I had it. I'm gritting my teeth waiting for warmer trofeo friendly weather to come back.

This leads me to the top of this thread... would anyone be interested in a meet at the tail of the dragon or suggest any other good driving road for a meet, when things warm up? I tried to get this going with a few guys in Columbus in the fall, but schedules did not permit. Would be cool to have a big z28 meet at the dragon(or anywhere else for that matter with some great driving roads).

Opening the thread up for input and suggestions...

Depending on the timing I might be interested in running it again. Was on the Dragon last July, the Z/28 is in its element there to be sure.

I've been thinking about doing this. If the timing is right I'd be in.

not to to rain on anyone's parade: but the temps at the "tail of the dragon" - Deals Gap, Deep Gap N/C...aren't exactly ideal..today and tomorrow...30 tonight, 38 tomorrow, and 44 F on Saturday?? Might be a pretty squirrelly drive at those temps...

you must be talking spring.

personally..I've done the "tail of the dragon" twice when I lived in TN, in Morristown.

Definitely spring... Trofeo friendly temps are a must for me.

My intent was to set up a plan. Please chime in.

Hey Mark im just wondering where the tail of the dragon is? I hit a road coming off a tourist attraction in the Smokey Mountains a few years ago. It was a Pioneer town at the top of the mountain but i cant remember the name. There was only one road up...and you had to be down before a certain time or you had to take a backroad....thats how i ended up on this un believeable road at night....in a minivan. I may have run it and didnt even know it .

Your story sounds like something that would happen to me. I remember finding some of the best driving roads ive ever driven in wales once and only to be chugging along in a rental ford c-max....tragedy

Since your post i looked it up...I think its called Cades Cove. The road I took was Parson Branch which wound its qay down the side of the mountain..it took me to mile marker 4 on the Dragon it says. At that time it was basically a trail....i lead the way down with an elderly couple following me. There were spots where water was running over the road and it was getting dark. After that nailbiter I unknowlngly come up on the Dragon. Its was dark and hairpin turns made my son car sick and my infant daughter cry and my wife bitch. This was 17 years ago when it wasnt as famous as now. So i conqured the Dragon in a 1999 Pontiac Montana minivan...bitching wife...sick kid and crying baby. You will have a great time...just dont do it in the dark.

Gr8 road...you'll want to watch out for the state police...most of the time the speed limit is 30-35, sometimes 40....and its got no tolerance enforcement.
