Finally drove a 2010
I'm not sure this is worthy of it's own thread, but i finally got to drive one. I wasn't one that could bring myself to order a new car without driving. I've seen some on lots, but i've heard it's hard to get a test drive. I noticed a couple days ago there were 5 or 6 at my local dealer, including a Summit White. White's always been my color. So today i drove past, and i decided to stop. Immediately a salesman came over, and then he handed me off to another salesman. So we went over to the Camaro's. They had 4 SS's on the lot, and a V6 in the showroom. The white one had unpainted ground effects, and black rally stripes. It was auto, 2SS/RS. I mentioned that i wasn't going to buy one today, but i really couldn't buy one without driving one first. Not really expecting a test drive. He said "that could be arranged." He went on to say they don't like giving rides if someone has no intention of buying, but since i'd owned other Camaro's, and was really interested, there was no problem. So we went inside, and he got the keyes. Let me drive it off the lot. First thing i've been worried about is the high dash, and seeing out. Now, i don't know how the seat was adjusted. I just got in, was comfortable, so i didn't even think about adjusting it. I'm sure it wasn't in the low setting since i had no trouble seeing out. I drove it about two miles. I didn't floor it obviously, and i didn't take it on twisty roads. I gave it about half throttle a couple times, and the power was nice. The ride was nice, without any lean going around corners. The only draw back i immediately found was the rear visibility. Yeah, it's tough.
I liked the car though. Probably a little more than i though i would. It had the backup sensors, and the other Camaro's they had did not. I also didn't notice the cylinder deactivation on the L99. Does it do that in city driving? Well the only thing was, the car had an MSRP of $38,000 and they wanted $49,000!!!!!!! Obviously i'm not paying 49k for a Camaro. For that price i could get a base Corvette. I'm still interested in how the V6 feels, but today removed some doubts i had about the car. I'd like to see how it feels on twistier roads, especially given it's weight. I didn't particularly notice the heaviness of the car though. |
