Unhappy Is a aftermarket torque converter worth it??

I have a L99 TVS 2330 with 12lbs of boost, probably making somewhere around 550rwhp and a factory stall. Since i have gone to the track the last 3 years, i was able to 11.8 once only. i also have 18x10 weld rts rims with 555r drag radial for when i do go. My 60ft times have been 2.0s and up and i think i have gone 1.9 once as well. From what iv been reading and what people have been suggesting to other members is that i need to get a aftermarket torque converter. I just spoke with my tuner he said that he hated torque converters with my setup because it makes it impossible to hook and totally impossible to launch and stick the vehicle. With everything that i have put in the my car i should be running high 10s if anything.

Question is? Did i make the right choice in ordering a Circle D multi-disk 3000-3200 rpm stall?

He really got me thinking that i didnt make the right choice. Maybe i did i dont know. I didnt know what else to do to help get me down the track quicker with all the money i spent in upgrades. Thanks for yall input

If you can't hook, you need better tires! A stall will allow you to launch harder, but without better tires.......blah.....

So should i stick with the factory stall and get some slicks instead,or should i stick with the stall and get 17in welds with slicks

I would say both are needed. Better tires and a stall. You obviously aren't hooking already if you can't break 2's in the 60ft.

Mickey some mickey thompsons tires are needed. But would a stall still be beneficial if i have a stickier tire or am I still going to spin. I told circle d mostly street. Im just know with the power i make I should be low 11s high 10s on a good night. Just wasnt sure if it was the stall that i needed that or tires. I havnt tried the mickeys yet

x2 on the Mickeys.. You will be ok with the converter change after you get the good tires on.. What concerns me is the huge gap in between your bad runs and good runs. You need consistency to make progress. What are you doing with the traction control? on or off?

I've tried 4-5 tires. 555Rs are a good street/entry level/lower power tire. I went 12.3@112 on them stock engine.

Then NT05Rs, 1.59... but still some spin. Tried MH's, about the same for me.

Then Hoosier slicks, 1.47. I have had MT Pros on my car and I can tell they are very good, and friends have gone 1.43 on them.

So yeah you have outgrown the 555Rs, keep them for the street and run a better tire at the track.

A set of 305/45/18 M/T with 18psi and a 3000 or 3200 stall. You need some stall with just 550rwhp.
You don't have enough H/P to make it impossible to hook. With the rite tire.

This was over 5 years ago with 585rwhp. I ran a FTI 3200 with the 6L. Back then still had the stock 20" wheels with 555R. My 60' was low 1.60 and high 1.50. I had no problem getting it to hook. That with the Whipple
