stock Z/28 dynoing at 465 rwhp to 469 rwhp ! seems high !

Lately, I have seen alot of Z/28 dynoing at or above 465 rwhp. That seems very high for a 505 engine hp rating. At 15% drive line loss that is approx. 535 hp... Is it the motor with those COPO heads with that additional power ? or the drive train being more efficient ??

Or GM underrated it like they do a lot of cars. the 1996 LT4 Dyno's at 330 to 360 range and its only said to be 350 at the flywheel.

It should only be 430hp at the standard estimate of 15%. So 465 is a bit high but in the typical range of under reporting.

If people are getting a 465 that would equate to a 547 hp gross output with 15% loss. 465 divided by .85 = 547 or, 547 - 15% (15% = 82) = 465.

That's a lot of underestimation but I will take it!

No wonder the car feels so stout.

Mine was in that range too, Continental ties in it when on the dyno.

I think my car dyno'd at 455-460 RWHP, and the simple add of headers and a tune brought it up to 493 RWHP...what an improvement! But in the end, it still wasn't enough power coming from a modded ZL1.
She's the perfect balance of power and handling now!
Anyone considering Heads/cam/intake/throttle body upgrades should go ahead and do it!
The car is a total animal, but not over the top!
I can hang with the likes of Audi R8's and other exotics with my new engine build!

I think my factory LS7 was a little weak as the replacement that I recently installed feels much better. I have no #s to confirm this but SOTP.

Not too strange really. Our Z's come with a K/N performance CAI. On my '09 Z09 a CAI from Halltech is good for 32 hp, when combined with a dyno tune C6Z06 LS7 = 505 + CAI...537hp. I woudnt be surprized if the car wasn't underrated, as I've seen it compared to the 69 aluminum ZL1 engine, which was also grossly underrated.

Combine some level of under-rating, and an agressive 91 octane tune that uses the CAI to best effect. Evidence fo this? The C6Z06 was rated at 505HP...without a snap crackle pop tune, or a CAI. The addition of the performance intake could easily give the HP rating a bump...along with an additional HP bump from an underrated LS7.
