Can you get a speeding ticket in 1st gear?

Answer: Yes you can. Because I just got one.

It is above freezing so I decided to go for a little drive in my toy. I know, it's wet and salty but I couldn't resist. So within five minutes I got a speeding ticket. In first gear. I was doing about 40 in a 30 zone. (That's miles per hour; the ticket was of course in km/h: 64 in a 50 zone.) in first gear. Yeah, I know. I was getting to know my car.

Thing is, I wasn't going fast. It didn't feel like I was, anyway. With these "no traction" summer tires I drive like an old lady. I was checking out gear ratios, etc, true, but nothing excessive. Or so I thought. Damn... second one in a month.

Not true. LEO's don't really care what you drive, and tend to pull driver's over who make it a point to stand out in a crowd. OP, as far as the speed goes, keep in mind that often the lower speed limit areas get more direct enforcement attention because they are school zones, residential areas, business districts, etc.

Like another said, save it for the track. Join a race or autocross group, and get it out of your system. Don't complain about getting tickets if you drive like that on the street.

I would speculate to say that everyone on here, and I mean everyone, including myself doesn't save their spirited driving for the track, for heavens sake we all drive ZL1's. If anyone is saying they have only driven their ZL1 "spirited" on the track and no where else they are not being honest. Sorry if I offended anyone. Lol

I haven't been pulled over for anything under 90...even then, one ticket I was told to cut it out and was just for a missing license plate...

I think we're expected to speed in fast cars...I think they pulled you over for going too slow and thought you were either drunk or running drugs...

..next time go faster...

Of course it's possible to get a ticket in 1st gear...A number of reasons that come to mind would be speeding, negligent driving, disobeying a traffic control device, etc...Your in Canada, so I don't know how your driving record points system may affect your driving habits...In TN traffic tickets accumulate in points than can lead to a loss of one's driving privileges, as well as, have an affect on the insurance premium...So it may appear to be humorous to you now, but the long term affect could result in a hefty fine to regain your driving privilege and increase your insurance premiums...At that point it's not funny as it can cost thousands of dollars of unnecessary expense...And can even lead to incarceration for continued traffic violations if your license are revoked, suspended, or cancelled...

I can tell you I have had more interest from the police, with this camaro...than I ever did with my C6 vette. And honestly the corvette was faster.

I had a long conversation with an LEO last year concerning an instance in which I never left 1st gear... and for that matter, never exceeded the speed limit. The phrase "appropriate time and place" came up a few times. Eventually, we agreed that the law wasn't broken, but that it would be best in the future if I behaved differently in the local traffic circle at 10AM on Saturday.

Yeah, well, I asked about *speeding* tickets, see the subject - and it was a rhetorical question :-)

Yeah it is the same here with points, and no, getting a ticket is not funny (though the circumstances may be).

As for speeding: Everyone speeds. The thing is to go with the flow. I.e. not super fast, and not dangerous. Well, I don't go super fast, and I never do anything dangerous. I do have the idea, though, that with a ZL1 I am a cop-attractor. I got one ticket a month a go for "Careless Driving" - again, I was far from careless. Unlucky, yes; fast, also; but careless, no.
Over 41 years of accident free driving, many miles per year, may perhaps be some indication of that.

As for Karma, as someone else pointed out: don't worry, I only take her out when it's way above freezing and the roads are dry. This car is pristine, and I want to keep it that way!
