New Headers and welded on exhuast

I recently bought some headers and i installed them myself and i made sure the manifold bolts were on there good. i then took my car (with open headers lol) to exhaust pros and had them weld my pipes together and then bolted to ball and socket flange header connection. Ever since then i have been tracking down a so called "leak". i found a tiny hole by one of the mufflers, but it made no change to sound. So i took it back to exhaust pros to check for leak but he said it was just valve tick sound comming through the exhaust system, and it was just louder because the pipes are thinner, but the pipes are not that much thinner, (btw they are made of caoted mild steel). So i took it to brakes plus because i have a friend there and we checked for leaks together with a shop rag, but nothing was found and he tod me the same thing as exhaust pros. But it just sounds like an exxhuast leak. Is the Ls3 well known for having loud exhaust ticking with headers? or something else? If so is there any way to fix that?

Sounds normal. These LS engines have loud valve train stock and headers exacerbate that sound.

Take off the headers and put the cast manifolds back on and it will quiet it. Headers are thinner than the cast manifolds and allow for more noise.

How does it sound under load? Plus what is your exhaust setup?

I had just cat back loved the sound just wanted louder and meaner. Got new headers chased exhaust leak for weeks taking it on and off re tighten up re angle everything I could try. asked a few friends and researched here and pretty much LS engines sound like shit with headers is all there is too it as I have no black spots showing leaks and even did vacuum test and nothing. SO put cast irons back on if you cant live with it.

That is a great answer!! I will keep it that way then. I dont have a tune on it it would probably be more potent with a tune. And i mostly hear it when window is open so dynomatt might not help me.

P.S. Do u think exhaust wrap would add some insulation and quiet it down?

I just put my lt on last night and it sounds like a sewing machine. But so did my g8 and trans am.

I have a video of my neighbor telling me where the sound is coming from If your interested in comparison but until i see indication of a leak I'm sure it's the same noise I've always heard.

I don't have a vid to give you a comparison but that sounds like valvetrain noise making it through the stainless steel to me

It's normal, I had literal hissing on decel, like someone whistling, and I just had a clamp too far back. Once I fixed that the issue went away.

If you're worried about leaks, JB weld is a rather permanent fix
