New cam and exhaust. will it start ?

Car has a KN CAI and is all stock.

Getting ready to order a set of Long tubes, exhaust, cam, ported TB etc...

Once I put all this in will the car start, run, and drive ( Freeway speeds ) safely without a tune ?

Im planning on getting it tuned but will I be able to drive it to a shop for some dyno time ?

Don't be tempted to run it hard and you'll be fine. As long as you make sure everything is sealed and hook up ALL sensors (I always forget one). Unless it's a not so mild cam, I can't imagine it causing problems.

Mine ran ok, but idle was weird and car was dying everytime I would push the clutch. Ran like a POS. It even ran like that with a "base tune" from a known seller. I siwtched to a real tuner like Pat G and it ran perfect on "his 1st base tune" (email tune with autocal).

It will run like shittt

I wouldn't risk it personally. I would find someone with a trailer or get a flatbed to tow it over if you can afford it.

That's a lot of changes at once. It would be a shame if the car decided not to handle it after you sink that much into it.

Your initial startup will have the car in Open loop. That will be rough at first, and depending on your cam size, you may have too much air flow. As stated above... it may not stay cranked.

Once your car enters Closed loop, you should be ok to a point. You're ECU will make adjustments accordingly. But if you've ever seen a scanner right after a swap like that, your Fuel Trims are going nuts. It's having to adjust for an increase of air that it thinks shouldn't be there. If you gas it too hard (enough to enter power enrichment) you'll most likely lean out. Ain't nobody got time for that!

I personally (if I didn't have tune software) would only feel safe driving it straight to the Tuner, and would only do that if I had my scanner hooked up so I could monitor everything.

Anyone have luck with a mailed tune in a sct or diablo for something like this ?

Thinking of a ts stage 3 cam. Long tubes/full exhaust, Ported tb.

I originally was planning on doing the exhaust then just paying a local shop to install the cam and tune it but the 2 local guys I know of don't return mesages ( pm, email, or phone).

I went with the GPI VVT SS3 cam, Ported heads, intake manifold tube mod, ported throttle body. Everything I needed was in the boxes. They sent me the initial tune. I turned the key and it fired up like normal only louder and then the nice cam sound came in. Still running it on the initial tune. I talked with Ryan to get what I needed. Awesome Customer support!

Take pictures and when you disconnect anything put blue painter tape on it and write on it so you know where it goes. The blue tape is easy to spot so you do not miss something.

Im good with the actual install work. Not worried about that part at all.

Just new to needing a computer to make it run.

I was just gonna pay the shop to install the cam so they could tune it at the same time.

Guess Im just old.

You should have no trouble getting some of the sponsors on here to set you up with a tune based on your setup and get it to you on a hand held to load it up.

It's going to be tempermental, but it will run. I would contact JDP in Murray pretty quickly as their dyno fills up quickly. They are the ones who tuned mine the first time with the basic boltons, and the second time with the cam. Very happy with their tunes.
