NCCAR - Video report... Z/28 is an animal

Simply an amazing car. I was running 35 PSI in the fronts 37 PSI in the rear cold. At 36 all round the car had "a lot" of understeer. 305 Contis on all 4 corners - they never chunked but you can tell they've been heat cycled by looking at them. The tires were absolutely holding the car back. PTM was off after the first session .

All slides were intentional (sometimes the angle was more than I expected though!). Car was planted when I wanted it to be or the rear would come around by giving it a deliberate amount of gas. Incredible driving experience - this was my first time hot lapping the Z. Time attack was fun but felt amazing to run laps again.

I got about 105 min on track yesterday. I did a straight 45 min session with zero temp issues. Oil was averaging 230, coolant was 200, air temps were close to 50f. During the 45 minute session I'd do 3 -4 hot laps (all out), take a cool off lap and grab another 3 -4 to protect the tires from chunking. I only came into the pits for 5 min to get out of the car, catch my breath and head back out.

Best lap was a 1:38.10 - Harry's had my theoretical best at 1:37.4. Can't even begin to imagine what the lap times would have been with the trofeos. I'll probably take the Trofeos to NCCAR in April. Gt350r was running 1:34s with Pilot Sport Cup 2s and a very competent instructor behind the wheel.

Summary of the car: balanced carving machine; oversteer when you want it and lots of control when it slides. A little slower on the straight then I would have hoped but otherwise a monster. Oh, and those brakes!! A+ machine. But we all knew that

Warning... Tires were harmed in the making of this video!

Here you go! I forgot to turn video on for my faster laps on my iPhone. My fastest lap was 1:38.10 - I'll try to cut up the GoPro video and get data overlaid but this was a fun lap. I asked Jason to hop in on my first couple laps since I'd never visited NCCAR before. Leaving a lot in the braking zones because I didn't want to ham on the CCs too much.

Nice run...I have only run NCCAR clockwise so that was really weird to watch.

136.5 was my fastest speed logged by GPS which was a little lower than I was expecting. My buddy in an e92 m3 with stiffer lowering springs was hitting 140 on the straight and I wasn't really catching him there. He started running Harry's laptimer too so I asked him for the lat g map pic - I want to see if he has as much lat g as I do on to the straight. I suspect I was finishing the turn late our tracking out too long. I was thinking I was going to be hitting 140 to 145 in the braking zone but its a heavy car!

Also, he was consistently pulling more lat g throughout the entire track and I didn't feel like the tires really had much more to give. He was on MPSS - was very interesting to see that it looked like the MPSS had just a little bit more grip / bite then the contis. The m3 ran a 1.37.xx my best was a 1.38.10. He's also a better driver than I am and has a bit more experience.

Attached is some data from my fastest lap. I referenced the lap that's in the video above so you can see the difference. I geek out over data... habit from sim racing.

Pic 1 is lat g, yellow is in excess of 1G
Pic 2 is the GPS points logged by the phone (my external GPS died)
Pic 3 is speed over distance; gray line is the faster lap
Pic 4 is lat g
Pic 5 is lon g

I will be there 1 April. Can't wait. Ran VIR and Dominion and had a blast at both.
