New to Camaro5 , new problems arise.
Good morning all. New to Camaro 5. Been reading alot of posts so I figured I'd join and make contact with other Camaro folks. Cen-Cal area. Looking to shoot the breeze about 5thgens and meet local folks to find out about car shows and camaro specific events. I've had some minor lifter noise but this morning I got a God awful rattle. I already have an appointment with a dealer regarding the lifters, set for 3-16-17. Now I will have to add this rattle to the list. I suspect it's exhaust, but I'm concerned it might be the lifter (s) getting worse. Since it's a couple days until I go into the dealer, I will most deff be working on getting audio/video of the rattle. I have no mods. 2013 SS/RS. 32k miles. Very well maintained weekend cruiser. Still have factory drivetrain warranty and extended warranty has been purchased also. Anyway. Glad to get started on here and looking forward to chatting with many of you.

noise could be anything from a lifter going bad which is more likely to happen, too a L99 engine to a rockers trunnion failing, too the manual trans slaves bearing support melting because it is not a billet Monster replacement, too the ls3 style chain tensioner falling apart from being plastic and not the ls7/2 dog bone style . To avoid any damage carefully watch oil pressure if its from the engine.
A rattle could also just simply be a baffle shot having it spot welds fail inside the muffler which is noted to happen with the stock "trash can" exhaust...called that for looking like two smashed metal trash cans. And rattling heat shield along the drive shaft tunnel ... Good Luck, look for the noise with a hose as a stephoscope if needed and tear the valve covers off if needed to inspect ,tow it don't let it eat a valve and bite the engine as that's spendy. Minor typewriter chatter from a ls engine is normal BTW because of the high lifting roller lifters and the preload being in a range to when the engine warms the tolerances become tighter and thus less noise for many. L99 AFM lifters are more prone to fail if your auto.

Welcome and good luck. Hope it's not anything serious. As prior mentioned avoid driving it , if you do eye the oil pressure, and have it towed to the dealer. Post back when you find out.

You can look at the build numbers and get an idea from the color and options list but you can not get it down to a certain combination of options. You would have to extrapolate the options spread over the models to get anywhere close. And even then it is still a SWAG. The single most rare 13 Camaro is the Dusk Edition Convertible. 158 built.

It's an L99A6. Wanted the M6 but the ole lady insisted on auto in case she has to drive me in an emergency. So auto it is. She has not, nor will she ever set foot behind the wheel, but the emergency situation is a valid point. So auto it is.
The rattle ended up being a shredded ac belt. Changed that using a few zip ties. Went ahead and changed the serp too. Used a pvc pipe to check engine noise. Either a slightly noisy lifter or a Very noisy injector. I'm betting lifter. |

Thanks. Been in the auto industry for many years. Engine machinist for a decade. Restored all types of cars over the years. I've found that the unmolested cars are the ones worth the most after 30+ years. I have plans for a few exterior, interior, and performance mods, but nothing that can't be changed back. Performance mods will not commenced until all warranties have expired. By then, I'll probably have changed my mind and continue to leave stock.

I thought there were only 69 COPOS made in '13. Not 100% on that tho. Concerning mine, it's just 1 of 18k SS's made that year, and I just want to keep it clean / running good for many years to come. |
