Has anyone made a Hole for easy Evap Solenoid replacement?
I'm on my third P0449 and I'm ready to do this

I am not sure about the location since I have never had to do one but is there a flat location you can make a large hole and put a boat deck plate on it to seal it after done?

Don't top off when filling up, you won't be replacing that solenoid at all. That's why they fail. The fuel gets over filled and runs down the vent into the solenoid and ruins it over a little bit of time. Same problem with our Acadia

mine has a p0446 code evap emission system vent control circuit. I've read a lot of these forums about what it is and how to fix it but no definite answer. I am really hoping I don't have to drop the tank to change whatever part it will take to fix it. 41k no warranty from what I understand on the evap system.

I do not know about OK, but in CA, anything that had to do with smog equipment, the warranty was 65k or X number of years. I would check with the dealer to see.

I was considering doing that as well, but after replacing the first one, it's not that big of a hassle to just drop the cradle and swap it out.

Yes, after my fourth time replacing it (paying a shop the first time and in my garage) I decided to locate the Evap Solenoid area in the trunk, behind the back seat and make myself an easy access door to do it again (because I know it will be due in about two years).

After I removed the Evap Solenoid (a real PITA), I pulled the removable carpet from the trunk, exposing the spare tire/battery compartment. I then located a hole with a plastic plug in the center of the car behind the back seat. I flashed a light down through the hole and fed a tape measure to it from the passenger side rear wheel well. I was then able to approximate the distance from the holes edge to where the Evap Solenoid was located (about 9 1/2"). Once I determined where my free space was, I drew a 4 3/4" x 4 1/2" box and went to work with a drill, jigsaw and Dremel. There was one wire closest to the wheel well that I needed to be careful with. I cut three sides of the box so that I could peel the metal back, install the new part, push it back down, seal the cut edges with silicone and secure it with a piece of framing strap I had laying around. I used the Dremel to get rid of the sharp edges and burrs before putting the new part it in. Attached are some pics to help people thinking of doing the same thing. I didn't have a car lift to aid in dropping the sub frame and it's a PITA and costly at a shop, so now it's easy. BTW, doing this from the back seat is easier to get to the hole location than getting into the trunk.

SMFH!! between cutting apart the hvac box for the blend door, cutting holes in the body for the fuel pump, now this for the vent valve??? Maybe, just Maybe you shouldn't be doing these repairs if you can't do them correctly! I shudder to think what the floor pan and firewall look like when you guys do a transmission! I would never buy a car from any of you...........
I have fired people for doing this shit to a customers car!

There was someone on here a few years ago that wrote a how-to on R&R a transmissions that said it was ok to not replace the top bolts in the bell housing since they were hard to get to.

But again people modify these cars all of the time and these modifications for easier service can be well done and not cause any issues. We all have to juggle our time and money to get what we want.

Glad I’m not the only one. Just because it’s easy doesn’t mean you should…
