Stock Polished 20'' Wheels in the Winter

I am concerned about the salt/ice/snow etc. on my 20'' polished during the winter. I plan on buying some good winter tires, but I was going to keep the same wheels. Any thoughts on durability with the crap on the road? Will they look as good in the spring? Thanks!

imo, Your best bet is going to just keep them as clean as possible. If you dont have a dedicated set of winter wheels, there really isnt too much you can do outside of washing as often as possible to keep the salt from sitting on them.
To make cleaning them easier, think about applying some wheel sealant to them. This will not only leave a layer of protection on them, but as mentioned, when it comes time to clean them up, it'll be significantly easier. Also, consider picking up an ez detail brush. This will allow you to clean the inner barrel w/o having to remove the wheel. I think this is your best plan of attack.

They come clear coated. Wash them like paint.

Yes. Similar to a paint sealant, however, designed to withstand the higher temps seen in this application.

4.99 Turtle wax is all you need.... doubt the wheels will get to high temperature in the snow.

The durability of turtle wax (let alone the quality) is not even close. If you wanted a less expensive alternative, you could technically use Collinite 845 as well.
To make a claim that the wheel sealant is "going to look like crap over clear coat" is highly inaccurate and couldn't be further from the truth. I have no problem w/ feedback whether its good or bad, but please use the product first before making a statement like that.

I'll start by admitting I'm a Zaino zealout. I also have the 20" polished wheels. Although my Camaro wheels will not be seeing the winter, what I have done is coat them in 3 layers of ZFX enabled Z2. I suppose most any wax would do, with varying degrees of sucess. The idea was to give the clearcoat some protection against the elements. The fact that the Z2 just gave it more shine and made it easier to clean was a bonus.

I'm sensitive about this because of a bad experience I'm currently having on my 2004 Impala SS. It has chrome over aluminum OEM wheels. Salt corrosion is now causing flaking of the chrome on the barrel portion of the wheel. This in turn is causing the wheels to have a leak through the wheel itself. It is not something you want to deal with...

Chris, I'm going to be giving that brush some serious thoughts. Cleaning out the barrels every time I wash the car is a PITA, I probably spend as much time on the wheels as the rest of the car!

I think you'll really like it. Give me a little bit. I did a quick detail job yesterday for a guy and snapped a pic of that brush in action (more to show how tight of an area it'll fit than anything else). I'll post up the detail in a few

Polished Wheels Are Clear Coated!!

I've not seen the Polished Wheels first hand (only in photos) so please don't rant on me here), but I guess that makes sense, because in those photos they sure didn't have any shine or luster, they had more of a dingy, almost dirty look.

This wheel shown has the shine / luster that I was expecting when I ordered the +$470 Optional Polished Wheels.
