New here! Ss2 vvt cam, stall?
Hey first time posting in the forum here. I have a 2011 ss l99 and have done all the installs myself for, vmax tb, cai intake, gpi ss2 vvt cam w/afm/dod delete, muffler Delete, Stainless works LT, and dyno tune. I ran a 12.8 in 1/4 and I'm at 431 hp to the wheels..
Now my question here is, what stall converter should I get for this cam I have? Gpi recommended at least 3600 but I want to know best brands, single or multi disc and best stall amount I should have for the best performance. Keep in mind I do plan on going to 3.91 gears too.. Thanks! |

I have the GPI SS2VVT cam and a Circle D single disc 3C (3600) converter. Had planned on going with the multi disc, but after speaking with Ryan and also with Circle D I went with their recommendation for the single disc. I also have 3.91's.

Great choice in cam setup, I would def go with the circle d 3600 for that cam, triples have more weight to spin being heavier. Less mpg as a daily un less a strict dragger. Because they use loose fluid coupling to light their large chargers and rely on lock up to put their power to the ground, not fluid coupling. But if its not your daily, def a triple. Just my opinion...either way awesome. You ll also definitely benefit from the gear swap

I have the GPI SS4 setup and other goodies with a 5c multi converter it flashes about 4200. Absolutely love the setup, from basic bolt ons ran 12.3's on a good day to 10.5's to 10.8's

Get the 3800 single disc circle d.. The ss2 cam is great! But if you can I would go ss3.. only reason I went ss2 was because I wasn't getting a stall right away. Wish I went ss3 now... lol

I know all dynos read differently, but 431 seems low for a SS2....
I've seen quite a few dynos from SS1 cammed L99's making like 450 RWHP...

Funny enough, I emailed Gpi and they recommended I just get the ss3 too, with a 4c torque converter.

Either way you cant go wrong. If you plan on fi in the future perfect cams plenty of power through the bands. Dont let dyno numbers fool you, track it and youll see. I definately recommend gears for sure

To be honest SS2 is an entry level (mild) cam compliments your bolt ons as it is. You can go fi later and beast it. Most of our cars with standard bolt ons tune about 370 to 380 so if your stuck on numbers 50 hp gain not to shaby from adding a cam alone. Also, other supporting mods will increase your hp, ported throttlebody, radius rod mod on intake manifold, udp, and getting rid of your cats
