Header and CAI install runs bad low end rpm
New to the forums here. Just had a cold air inductions intake along with kooks long tubes and 3 inch catback with magna flow high flow cats put on my car. Sounds great, but when I'm in the lower rpm range 1000-2000 and give gas to the car it bucks and stutters a few times before she gets up and going. It seems fine after that rpm range. I have unplugged the battery for 10 minutes and reconnected to see if that would help but no dice. I am planning on getting a tune from Mr. Jannetty but I'm wondering if that is going to fix this issue. There are no lights on in the car. And I've put about 40 Miles on it since the install. Thanks for any help guys

A tune will be good after the headers were installed. You could try a fuse pull in the meantime but you most probably need a tune

Yea man, what he said ^^^^.
CAI, tune not needed. Longtubes and new HF cats? Your ECM went full retard...and you NEVER go full retard. Actually, you are probably very lean right now. Get that tune!

Haha that's actually pretty funny. Yeah I'm hoping the tune will fix the problem I was just worried maybe it was something else. You think the fuse pull might help? Thanks for the quick responses fellas

What is weird to me is that it isn't throwing a code at all. So I don't know if the new parts are sending the O2 sensors out of wack enough to drive funny but not throw a code or if something else is going on. I would think if I was misfiring from a bad plug or wire I would get a code

I'd check all the obvious stuff first......plugs/wires, 02's, maf, cai connections and all exhause connections. Be sure to re torque header bolts after a few heat cycles and again after a month or so.

Maybe the light just hasn't come on yet. I think I said I put 40 miles on it since the install but now I think about it it's more like 20-25. I will check all the plugs and wires again. I don't smell any fuel when it's driving so I don't think it's running rich at all. I have a tune from jannetty racing on the way hopefully for next week. I'm going to let it sit until then and hope the tune takes care of the issue

Did you remove the spark plugs prior to swapping the manifolds for the headers? If not there is a pretty good chance you might have cracked an insulator on one or two of them.
Also check the wires for contact with the headers. Also checked that they are fully seated on the plug. check your MAF sensor, that it is facing the proper direction and that it is clean of any filter oil, if you have an oiled filter. |

I just installed LT's on my car with no cats, unplugged the rear o2's, and have a Roto Fab intake...no tune and she runs fine. Obviously it's not perfect but the factory tune isn't perfect by a long shot IMO. I would definitely change out the plugs and wires. It's pretty inexpensive.

Yeah probably worth it to just spend a little money to replace the plugs and wires so I know they are good. Thanks for the advice guys, I'll keep you posted on what fixes the problem

Update here, got the tune for the car. Unfortunately it has not fixed the problem. It may even be worse now. It seems to get worse the longer I drive the car so I haven't taken it out very far. Still no light on. I drove the car around 40mph and put it in 6th gear and when I gave it any gas it would stutter and misfire to the point I thought it would stall. The next step seems to be plugs and wires unless anyone else has a good idea. Anyone have recommendations for plug brand?

Dude, my car would sputter and die if I put it in 6th gear at 40mph! Did you do the work or was it done at a shop?
Again, remove and check all your plugs for cracks. Check all you cai connections and check & clean the maf sensor. Make sure the 02's are properly secured and pluggind in. Make sure all harnesses are in place and secure.....not touching the exhaust any where. Dont just throw money at it until you eliminate the simple stuff. Good luck.
