Fog light holes for air intake runners

So on my 2015 2LS, I have only fog light holes and vents. no lights.
I was curious if anyone has heard of using the holes to plumb air into air filter. Make a closed system to ram air up to the air box.

would make my otherwise useless holes functional!

I may be stealing this idea from the Dodge Hellcat. I think it was that car that deleted a drivers' side headlight for this purpose.

The openings are fairly small and then you would have to make a long tube going to the passenger side hole. The gains would be minimal at best. It would be better to just get fog lights to fill in the holes. It will look a lot better and you will have fog lights. That's what I did.

maybe, but solid plastic or aluminum tubes with smooth surface for minimal turbulence, and a clean y-pipe like from an exhaust into 3" collector? sounds like a fun experiment!

I thought about this same idea (as Im sure other LS owners have) and ended up opting for the factory fog light kit from Gen5DIY.

There is some sort of air scoop available that does not utilize the fog light openings... not sure exactly how it works... can someone post a link to that if they know what Im talking about?

there are scoops available, but they look underwhelming. like a 2" x 4" rectangular opening thru odd angles into bottom of filter thru the grill.

I'm sure it works, but seems like an after thought vs real engineering

how about using a spiraled entrance with louvered fins to encourage air flow into collector?

That's actually a good idea. You would only need to use the drivers side opening. There was a guy here last year selling home made air scoops built out of vinyl rain gutter/elbows that were cut/fitted and pop riveted/glued I believe. You than have the passenger side to cool something down with using some imagination and engineering.

Yes, the added air will be a benefit if you can help direct it to an after market air intake. Example CAI system is a sealed box, directing extra colder air towards the bottom of the box will help.

Cutting away some of the opening behind the grill helps get air to this area too. This is what the scoop performance does, it is not an engineering after thought as the stock set-up does have a scoop that draws from the front grill. Adding the after market box, is what drives the benefit of the scoop, which helps draw air from the front, instead of letting it draw from the engine heat soaked air.

Also, Reading thru Yzark's build article, he found an Apex air scoop and swears it made huge improvement. but I have not located one myself.
