Lots of People want to race me now
So, I've only owned the Z/28 for a few months but already I've had 4 people want to race me. A Corvette (normal C7, not a Z06), a ZL1, a Challenger SRT (not Hellcat), and today a Tesla.
To be clear, I have ZERO interest in drag racing anyone. You all know the Z/28 wasn't built to do that and I just honestly don't care about going fast in a straight line against anyone. I think it's funny that without any provocation folks are just lining up and flooring it (in the case of the ZL1 he was not next to me, he was across the intersection, he looked at me and did a burnout, so I guess maybe technically he was just showing off and didn't want to race me?). Everyone else just lined up next to me and took off......if a high performance car lines up next to me I purposely do NOT look at them. I don't want to give any indication that I'm interested in racing and I think it actually makes them look kinda dumb when they take off and I just drive normally, but that's just me. Coming from a ZL1 and then a ZR1 I had a few people over three years want to race, but it seems more prevalent with the Z/28. Do you all experience the same thing? Just curious.......and today made me want to start a thread because it made me laugh. To Tesla folks: We know you have a scorching fast 0-whatever car....it's electric! It's not impressive that you can stomp your foot to the floor and drive the car straight. Wanna impress me.....go more than a lap with a Z/28 and still keep up! |

Glad no one wants to since the Z28 slow in my book.

I've had a guy in a 4700 lb pick-em up proposition me, he was waving like $250 in cash at me at a light in Broken Arrow where I live. I told him Hallett track and bring his title -> instant frown...

Yes they are. However a Tesla can't snap, crackle and talk to you like our LS7's do
I kinda figure if a vehicle can to do 0-60 around 4 seconds that is fast enough to get into any trouble on the street that you want. Of course maybe that's just me.

I've barely even driven my car, but every time I have someone tries to race. Probably because it's the "flashiest" Camaro ever made.
I have no interest in drag or street racing in this car, it's honestly really slow when it comes to that in my opinion.

Pickup trucks (souped up and stock) are my primary nemesis. Lol. Seriously, dudes in trucks consistently try and impress me (especially when their better half is along for the ride). I really have no idea why. I'll have some fun with them, but nothing too crazy. Next in line.... hot hatches. They don't line up and go, they buzz in and around me. Ford Focus RSs and RTs are the primary offenders. I just ignore them, but have to admit that they are quick, but not nearly as bad ass as they believe they are.
Edit: Have had a couple of Teslas show me their prowess. Yawn.

I've had a lot of folks want to race the Z, primarily because they think it's just a suspension package only... when you embarrass their Subaru, civic SI, pickup truck, GT350, they'll realize you're not in a body kitted SS.

Yes, everyone wants to race... The dodge's are the most anxious... Every time they see my Z/28, they burn rubber...

Our Z28's are slow... I would be afraid they would beat it. These cars are not fast in a straight line.

Justified you're just picking on Focus ST's cause I got one They only have a great 2nd/3rd gear - but not Z/28 quick However our Z/28's really come to life after you hold down the button on the right for 5 secs and kill stabilitrak and hold your accelerator foot down at 4500 to 5000 rpm for as long as you want to eat up your tires. In my Z06 with PTC completely off (button down 5 secs! Nirvana) and the line lock engaged you raise a cloud of smoke and then glide by a victim as its released. Hopefully, like here in Oklahoma, they often have the windows open. The two guys ( in the truck) I gave that treatment too looked like they just ate a lemon with a kind of confounded look on their face. Trucks CANNOT smoke tires. hint: 345 width tires generate A LOT OF SMOKE... I can't wait to put Pilot PS2 or RE11 in 325 width all the way around...and a line lock IS in my Z's future. Lingenfelter Line Lock

Dude w/ his family tried to race me in his Merc C300 today (wide open road w/ very few side roads and light traffic...) I took off at about 1/4 speed and I could tell he was giving it the beans. I glanced over and he had his race face on. His teenaged kids were in the back and they were looking at me with me w/ big grins and I was grinning back. For a split second I thought about letting dad win, but the Z just sort of took over and rocketed forward. I pulled into a gas station a mile or so down the road and they pulled in behind me. There is a great Mexican food joint there and I assume that's where they were headed. I was just grabbing a water. Never caught sight of them afterwards... I wanted to jazz him a little (in a good natured way..). The little Merc made a valiant effort... i just couldn't hold the Z back... she wanted to run!
