Used ZL1, not sure whats been done

Hey guys, Im new to the ZL1 world. I recently traded my 2014 1LE for a 2014 ZL1. I bought it at a dealer. It has Kooks long tubes and a Air Raid intake. The motor is a brand new crate LSA installed by the dealer. Im not sure what happened to the old one as the carfax and information I can get are very vague. The car has 4300 miles on it. It has to have a tune with the headers and intake. There are no check engine lights on and it drives great on the street. My questions are; Is there any way to tell if there were pulleys put on the motor? Im guessing the car had to be tuned with the bolts ons, on it. Wouldn't the dealer flash the ECU when installing the crate motor? Is there anything I should be cautious of or looking for?
Thanks for the input,
Tony

I really have nothing to offer, other than suggesting that you find a performance shop in your area that can make an assessment of the vehicle...Did the dealer not tell you why the motor was replaced???I would also be cautious in operating the car with all the unknowns...

They just said there was a problem and GM decided to replace the whole thing. Ill be cool with it until I can get it assessed. Thanks!

I would guess that if the dealer knew it was modded which would be obvious with the headers then maybe they purposely left the ECM alone.

I can look it up in global warranty if you want, just need last 8 of the VIN

Make sure you know who is covering the warranty on the car, and how long. You want to know whether your mfr. warranty is in place, or whether the dealer is specifically warrantying the car.

Find out (better to get it in writing) what you can and cannot do to the car while the warranty is in effect. A car with a rocky start you don't want to get stuck holding the bill for any future repairs unnecessarily.

I would take it to Phil at Tampa Tuning and let him take a look at it.

Easiest way to tell if an engine or any other component has been worked on is to see if the marking paint does or doesn't line up anymore. That would mean the bolts have been moved at some point. With the engine being replaced at 4300 miles, long tubes and intake I bet there is more than meets the eye with that car and potential issue down the road...just my $.02

Who cares...

You have a LSA ZL1.....one of the best and easily modded cars on the market.

Enjoy the car and the fact that your on C5 means you'll add mod's eventually so enjoy what you have and add mods as you see fit.

IMHO....

He needs to care, because he doesn't really know what he has or why...

Pulleys can be measured. A picture of the upper/lower can also help.

The engine could have been replaced due to the supercharger isolator going bad and I've heard about GM replacing the entire engine instead of just a new blower. But it could have been more involved, so don't take my word for it.

Definitely always care about your vehicle if you want to enjoy it for a while to come. Now the question is, does the engine have 4300 miles and the rest of the car have way more or is 4300 the entire mileage of the car.

Hey guys. Thanks for all the advice. Robrocketanski, my last 8 are E9800242. Thanks for looking into to that. Trickskier, do you have the contact info for Tampa tuning? The car has 4300 miles. The motor only has about 250. Where can I find the ID on the block. I just don't want to drive it hard and have the motor blow by not knowing what's been done. What should the stock pulleys measure? I can post some photos when I get back in town. Thank you again.

Stock pulleys will measure 3.0" for the upper supercharger pulley and 7.8" for the lower crank pulley.

I would highly recommend Fasterproms if you want an experienced LS/LT performance shop. Jeremy formato is one of the better LSA tuners out there and will know everything you need to know, he's in Lutz Florida which is about 45 minutes from Dunedin. Contact info is on this page: http://www.fasterproms.net/contact.html and he'll be able to test your car, read the tune and retune on a dyno if necessary as well as adding any mods you want. Look them up if you want to see some of the work they've done.

Not sure where the block ID is but not sure that it's important either.

Isn't it kind of late since he already signed on the bottom line? You bought the car... now you just find out what you bought.

He's fine. He's got a LSA with 200 miles on it. Doesn't matter what is done to it really it's brand new.
