Convertible will not go down.

I have a 2017 SS convertible. It was seized vehicle. I purchased without amplifier, cargo shade and other miscellaneous items. Can someone please help me with the convertible top? When i push the button near rear view mirror I get a display message that says to extend cargo shade to operate top. I dont have the cargo shade and read I could just disconnect sensor to bypass. I had also tried jumping the sensor to close the loop. After I do that and press the switch the message says only manual operation is possible. I dont hear any motors or anything when I press the top up/down switch. The amplifier was missing from vehicle and I replaced with an aftermarket unit. Could that have anything to do with it? Does anybody know what the problem could be? I have attached some pics of the sensors the cargo shade is to attach to and the cargo area. Only one of the sensors has wires going to it. I have read the owners manual and it says that anything further I need to take to dealer.

You have to have the retractable trunk cover curtain rod in the slots on the sides before it will work. Been there done that. I am sure its some sort of magnetic sensor that you could trick somehow for testing if you don't have the cover. That tells the computer, there is nothing it the way so to speak.

You asked for help. cargo shade...curtain rod.. whatever. I think you know what i am talking about. Whatever you want to call it. All convertibles came with one and it has to be in its extended position with the "rod" in the side slots before the top is going to work.

Yep... As mentioned, you need to pull the cargo cover so that the rods are in place when extended. Its a GM safety issue to protect your top from being damaged since it shares the same space as your trunk and therefore, the top is not harmed in case your put more in your trunk that both the top the your stuff can fit.

If your system is missing this rod, you will need to get one or if you do a search here, I recall some guys figuring out how to override this safety feature.

joe...

Just checking, the cargo shade should have a finger clip to grab & should be tucked pretty far inward. I can't imagine prev owner took out. ??

go to the dealer and get the shade put in.
You really will need it -- a damaged top is A LOT MORE EXPENSIVE!

The 2016 & 17 they changed it from the retractable curtain to the shade. It is lays flat in the trunk over the wheel well area and comes up to connect in those connectors. I can see someone taking it out of the car, our retractable curtains are not as noticeable. It almost looks like a floor mat in the trunk.

you can see it in action here

I would recommend replacing the cargo shade, the newer tops with the built in covers take up more room in operation than the older style and you could really damage something if you forget you have something back there. I doubt it is very expensive from the dealer.
