Keeping it cool
Hey guys, I purchased my ZL1 2 months ago. I recently had it dyno tuned. Before my first pull the tuner said my intercooler pump wasn't running. He bled some huge air bubbles out for about 20 min and the pump started to work. Could I have caused any damage driving without the intercooler pump not running? I recently purchased a D3 reservoir and am waiting for it to come in to install. I will completely bleed all air when I do. Is there a special process to this. I have seen the youtube video with the hose and funnel. I haven't driven the car since I got it home from the tune. HE also removed my weather stripping on the firewall and the engine cover stating that the engine compartment can retain heat with them. I live in florida where its crazy hot and it rains off an on. Is this a good idea? WHat are normal temps in the manifold supposed to be?
Thanks for the help

To bleed the system with the D3 properly installed all you have to do is fill it and idle it (with the cover off) for 10 minutes and it will self bleed...the D3 is installed above the pump.
If the pump isn't working you will need to replace it. When not dragging or tracking, and w/o any severe mods, I have found my Z cools fine when driving. But then I'm in the north, and we have only a handful of 90' days. The hood extractor works as it should when driving. If you have severe mods, or are dragging the car, in FL heat you may want additional cooling. |

Depends on how cool you want to keep it. I'm running a Forced Induction interchiller on mine and the results speak for themselves.

During normal, non-boost driving IAT2 (manifold) is usually about 10° above IAT1 (MAF). Also, just noticed, we're practically neighbors! Who did your tune?

Thanks for the advice. Jeremy Formato did it. His website is fasterproms.net. Really good guy. Hes out of Lutz, FL. DO you think driving with the weather stripping off of the firewall could get extra water into the motor? I heard it releases heat in the engine bay quicker. You think I did any damage to the motor by driving with the intercooler pump off. There was tons of air in the line.

I know Jeremy quite well. You're in good hands with him. Not much water will get in with the weather strip removed because it has the lip it attaches to as a barrier. I don't think you did any damage as the motor would just pull timing as the heat rose. A reservoir will definitely solve any air bubble problems as it pretty much self bleeds due to being the highest point in the system. And, you get the bonus of extra coolant volume.
