Camaro RS as opposed to...
So I saw an add for an '01 Camaro RS, heres a cpl pics:
![]() ![]() ![]() Features: ABS, Air Conditioning, Alloy Wheels, AM/FM Radio, CD Player, Cruise Control, Driver-Side Airbag, Leather Interior, **Low Mileage**, Passenger-Side AirBag, Power Locks, Power Mirrors, Power Seats, Power Steering, Power Windows, Remote Keyless Entry, Tilt Wheel T-TOPS Standard Equipment: Pass key Security System, Air Conditioning, 16 inch Rim Size, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Dual front air bags/active belts, AM/FM Cassette, 231 Cubic Inch Displacement, Daytime Running Lights, Tilt Wheel, 4 wheel standard Anti-lock Brakes, 6 Cylinders Mileage: 58,136 Body Style: Coupe Exterior Color: Red Interior Color: black Engine: 6 Cylinders Transmission: automatic Drivetrain: RWD Doors: 2 first of all, does this sound legit?.. is this really an "RS" or is it a base, badged as an RS with painted on stripes?.. Second..my car is failing more & more day after day. (Ford Taurus, go figure) And previously I had spoken to my mom about her helping me get a camaro, and she seemed, slightly optimistic. Main thing is.. I wanted it to be white..or black..not red =/, but this one in particular has great milage on it, and its only 8,800. Third: what makes an RS unique from the base camaro? besides just the stripes...I know its supposed to be an "Appearance" package..for this particular gen camaro, but I don't see anything besides the stripes (which I dont really care for anyway) It's the seemingly best camaro in my area thats listed...but again i didn't want it red, and dont want the stripes.. I'd be getting this car for daily activities (work/school etc) if I were to get it.. eventually I want a 5th gen but it'll probably be quite a few years before I can even get one. any suggestions?/thoughts?.. would be much appreciated. Our taurus is currently in the shop for the 3rd time since we got our "New" transmission. and my mom is getting literally FED UP. I think this may be a good time to try to go for a 4th gen... as for it being "T-Tops" do those really deteriorate as badly as I'm assuming?.. those rather turn me off, they're cool, but..I'd rather not go for it if they are as big of as hassle as they seem... I honestly have never even Seen a 4th gen RS on the road, nor have I heard much of any information regarding it. anyway thanks in advance for any advice =)

ahh, if that had the LLT v6!!!
I am not sure if all the RS's had the ground effects in '01. But it looks good. I would trade my 99 S-10 for it..... Someone on here should be able to confirm the RS authenticity. and it looks like they did, while I was typing (too slow) were the ground effects really not RS? how about 02?

you'll have to check the rpo codes to verify that it is truely an RS, it should be Y3B for that year. its not much of a package, but you might get lucky and it have the Y87 code for the Performance Handling Package (L36 V6 Only) which basically has the Z28 suspension and sway bars.
where are you at? btw? even with that low mileage, you could prolly find a better deal.

the ground effects were the Y3F appearance package.

A good site to find cars is http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites.html you click where you live then what you are looking for i.e. cars, trucks section. its like classifieds on the internet. it's where I got my camaro.

sounds legit to me. Why don't you get the vin and have your local chevy dealer run it to see what kind of repairs it's had...and if it was in fact an RS. They shouldn't have a problem doing it as I've had it done before too.
But, not bad mileage. PM SilverTurtle and run it by him. He's pretty knowledgeable about them. Sounds like Spikes got some pretty good info too. |

The pics have the right badges, but ALL of the RS Camaros I saw around from 98-02 had body kits on them. Of course that was all over the southeast, but ALL OF THEM had THE SAME body kit. I'd be a little suspicious that this one didn't come with a body kit. Just things I'd noticed back then.
Good Luck! Tim

Where's the body kit? My buddy's RS has a body kit.
Assuming that some came without the kit, everything else looks fine, so I'd consider it. Are you sure you can't wait 3 months to place an order for a 2010 Camaro RS? It's going to have a lot more power.
