well i started the quit smoking patch today and i bought the step 2 of the nicoderm patch since i smoke 10 or less a day. its a bit ruff so far my craving is still there but not as bad. I am hoping by me posting this there is someone else that has started the program and can help me out by telling me how they did it. Hope this thread works for someone who is also trying to stop.

Do not try this way. It worked great for about 2 weeks. It keeps you dependant and mine broke so ordering another would have been a while. And so you can figure how I did.

I tried the patch and all it di was make me feel like I was gonna have a heart attack. Might be because I wasn't supposed to put it over my heart.

Niccorette gum worked the best for me.

I quit smoking in 1995, I was a 3 pack a day er and here is how I did it. First I became determined to quit after many unsuccessful tries. My brother who never smoked died of cancer, that was my determining factor. I quit cold turkey. I smoked my last cigarette on Sept 13th 1995 at approx. 10:30 AM. I then went and put on the first patch. The patch just didn't do it for me. So I bought the Nicorette gum. The stuff tasted horrid but I kept at it for a little while. After being dissatisfied with that I started dipping. I hated to dip, but it provided me with the nicotine fix I needed. I slowly weened myself off the dip and was nicotine free by the end of that year. I wanted to smoke for about the first year, but it was more due to the habit and not for the need of nicotine. Now I totally despise the smell and can't stand to be around while someone smokes.

Find a tobacco store and get 100% real tobacco cig's.

Its a good test, if they can't help you get over it, then its not the Nic you need but the other drugs they use in it and its gonna be a rough detox.

If a few puffs off a real tobacco cig cures what ale's ya, they can help as 1-2 puff is all you need. Can help make it easy by taking it slower but still can smoke a little. 1 real tobacco cig = 4-5 reg name brand cig's.

Can help some as you are "smoking" allot less

Or even good cigars, real tobacco isn't that bad for ya.
Its all the crap they put in cig's.
Red's are only 15% tobacco

well day 3 and its going surprisingly well i do still get the urge to go outside and want to light one up but i think its more the habit and not really wanting one. my true test will be at a night club/ bar when i drink i like to have one so i will try to keep motivated to stop.

I'm in the middle of using the gum right now. I think its the best bet.

Not only does it satisfy the nicotine cravings, getting a peice out and chewing it satisfies the mental addiction too.

Now when I get up in the morning, or get in the car, I pop a peice of gum in my mouth instead of lighting up. Works great when drinking too.

You switch the mental and physical addictions over to the gum. Great thing about this, is once you start winding down the physical addiction, you can substitute in normal gum for the mental every once in awhile until you just like chewing the shit outta gum.

I don't know about those electronic ciggarettes, seems to me you would want to break the habit of inhaling stuff to get your fix...

Anybody talk to their Dr. about Chantix yet? Most of my patients have had pretty good success with it.

PS: Unless you have a history or there is a history of mental illness in your family I wouldn't recommend it.

Best way to quit is to just stop...... You will never quit until you are really ready to. All those patches and pills and junk don't work if YOU aren't ready ...... I smoked 35 years, quit dozens of times but not for good until I was ready to quit. Been clean for about 8 years now ..... One of the hardest things I've ever done ....

I tell everyone, unless you are really really ready to quit, don't waste your money. It's definitely a 'mental' game and if your mind isn't right, you will fail every time.

Hope some humor is ok here..

Nicorette.

Two priests are in a Vatican bathroom using the
urinals.

One of them looks at the other's dick and notices
there's a Nicorette patch on it.

He looks at the other priest and says, 'I believe you're
supposed to put that patch on your arm or shoulder,
not your dick.'

The other one replies, 'Well, it's working just fine. I'm
down to two butts a day.
