5th Fuel Up - 2nd on 93 Octane......

Fuel calculations:

87
25.2
25.4
25.3

93
25.7
27.2

The last one makes me wonder. Is it really the fuel? I mean, that is a mere 2mpg less than my 4 cylinder Forester gets (with 87 octane), and I can tell you I drive the Camaro a harder. Basically the same overall commute driving as well.

One factor seems to be - how far it's driven between startups. Starting these things seems to suck a good deal of fuel (which I suppose makes sense)

Now for reference, the 93 octane tested is BJ's fuel (please don't turn this into a quality of fuel discussion - this was for testing).

Either way, for a car that is fun to drive as is, it does what I consider to be very well. And I still need to install my Vitesse unit (for a more fun factor - )

2nd number on 93 could be a fluke, maybe a couple more fillups on 93 would reveal the truth one way or the other.

I have just run a second tank of 93 and MPG hasn't really budged yet. Around 19-20 mpg with 70% city, 30% highway.

I'm thinking it is, or I just ran more highway last week.

I don't typically push 75 on the highway unless I'm in a hurry.

Will continue and see.

I've met a few foresters and they would ask me to wander through the woods with them.

Before the car hits operating temperature, the sensors don't dictate fueling as much. They allow the car to run extra rich to get up to temp and then the sensors start to even everything out. Outdoor temperatures and everything effect the MPG that you will see.

You might continue to see that MPG on 93. The first tank through was probably still using the old timing and old fueling tables, and after 300 miles they start to relearn and reset. Did you pull the battery between the octane switch?

That explains it. If I drive shorter distances (or stall for whatever reason), the trip will "drop" a few miles, then recover a little.

I didn't pull the battery no. It's seen about 800 miles since, so it "should" relearn without that (is my thinking anyway)

I'm thinking it might have been the number of highway miles driven. Will do a few more and see what happens.

Either way - I'll take it.

This car is too much fun for me to be concerned or care about gas mileage.
